Blurring the lines between the natural and the human, Brazilian visual artist Franklin Silva crafts thought-provoking works that explore our relationship with nature. Through themes of fragmentation and emotional depth, he examines how these forces influence and depend on each other in daily life.

Franklin began drawing at age 11, initially inspired by surrealism and nature’s peculiarities. Over time, his focus shifted toward using art to process human emotions, particularly exhaustion and disconnection. Franklin earned a Visual Arts degree from Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas and works across multiple mediums, including charcoal, ink, oil, woodcut, linoleum gravure, and digital art.

Franklin’s animal paintings are a striking element of his recent work, blending realism with emotive layering. Rather than simply portraying wildlife, he captures the presence and personality of each animal, often placing them against atmospheric settings that reflect themes of coexistence. His use of texture and layered composition emphasizes the bond between the natural world and human-made environments. These pieces serve as quiet yet powerful commentaries on the interdependence between humans and animals.

Franklin’s work has been shown throughout the world, notably at the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, Itu’s Art Center, and the Santana de Parnaíba Museum. Most recently, his paintings of native New York animals are featured in Nature’s Neighbors, an exhibit running through September 13 at The Gallery at Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Pleasantville, NY.

Through his art, Franklin leads viewers to reflect on the fragile connections that shape our world and our place within it.
