This is just great! These nuts don’t realize that if the earth isn’t round then all the science behind it must be wrong too. Basic laws of gravity, physics, etc. all these have to be wrong as well. The way we fly airplanes is all wrong. The way we measure time must be wrong cause we’re not a rotating globe in space, and on and on.

My nieces boyfriend seemed like a nice guy though a bit rough around the edges. But hey, I'm no snob. Welcomed him into my home, was enjoying getting to know him over several weeks and then he said he didn't believe dinosaurs existed. I asked how he explained fossils and he says they're all fake and it's a conspiracy perpetuated by "the government". I tried explaining how they have carbon data testing etc. and his every government on earth would have to be in on the conspiracy...logic did not prevail. Of course he believes in a God he can't see, but not bones that can be seen. I had such a hard time being around him after that, it just seems to be a special kind of stupid I can't relate to. So maybe I'm more of a snob than I thought.

Regarding the elephants holding up the world: i feel it incumbent to note that in reality the Hindu people (over 5,000 years ago) knew the earth had a heliocentric orbit, knew the circumference of the earth at the equator within a mile, and wrote about sub-atomic particles. Their Ayurvedic medicine is spot on - they tell you that an herb heals the liver and moders science finds the liver repaired from damage by over 30 chemicals in double blind studies. Ayurveda says turmeric does X - and it does - proven by over 65,000 studies...

I actually did some research about Flat Earth as it's legitimately funny. They have multiple theories. One is "Universal Acceleration" where the disc actually accelerates all the time, sticking us to it. Another one is gravitation on a disc that was "demonstrated" by someone. This is one thing that always gets me. They are quick to say all photographic evidence the earth is round is fake yet no flat earth believer has gone into space to see for themselves. They just use existing "evidence" for their beliefs without bringing anything of their own to the table.

The first rainbow is wrong, a rainbow never starts from the ground. All rainbows are round circles but we only see half of the rainbow because the horisont is in the way.

Sorry Lucida, but you're wrong. Whilst this is a photoshpped rainbow, it's an entirely plausible one. The horizon does not 'stop' a rainbow, and it's not actually the Earth's curvature that causes the bowing. It's the result of the angling between the sun, the mist/cloud that refracts and reflects sunlight, and the observer. The bottom of a rainbow can appear to be quite close to the observer, and to the ground, depending on the perspective and the observers impression of how far away the rainbow is. In the strictest sense a rainbow never 'touches' the ground because it's a 'virtual image', but the horizon is certainly not involved in this.

I think, that the whole point of this is so that people would not believe blindly in everything so called authorities are trying to sell as "universal truths" and start to think on their own. It's not a theory though. It's simply a belief. There's a big difference between theory and belief. Theory works from the position that there is a culmination of evidence that supports an idea but has yet to be proven as fact. It is a rational process. It's a process that is open for debate, takes in new evidence and is updated and revised as new information is taken in. A belief simply accepts a concept as truth regardless of evidence. It is close ended and is most often interwoven with emotion. With belief, you are more apt to deny anything that conflicts with it.

It's also been shown in studies that the more you try and prove them wrong the more they will believe in it since, iirc, the mere act of trying to prove them wrong lends "credibility" to their claim.

This flat Eart thing is just showing how easy it is to malipulate people. I think, that the whole point of this is so that people would not believe blindly in everything so called authorities are trying to sell as "universal truths" and start to think on their own. Many people will believe in anything, as long as it's advocated by someone they see as authority in some field. I see it this way.

I bet a lot of flat earth "believers" are fake anyway. But any who actually do believe it I think are addicted to having a special group where only they know what's going on. It's not about the logic for them, it's desperately holding on to something to feel better /smarter than other people and be part of an exclusive group.

It's not a theory though. It's simply a belief. There's a big difference between theory and belief. Theory works from the position that there is a culmination of evidence that supports an idea but has yet to be proven as fact. It is a rational process. It's a process that is open for debate, takes in new evidence and is updated and revised as new information is taken in. A belief simply accepts a concept as truth regardless of evidence. It is close ended and is most often interwoven with emotion. With belief, you are more apt to deny anything that conflicts with it.
