In an interview with Vox, Kate explained: “There’s a tendency to define misogyny as this deep hatred in the heart, harbored by men toward girls and women. I define misogyny as social systems or environments where women face hostility and hatred because they’re women in a man's world—a historical patriarchy.”
And what’s really alarming about misogyny is that it is something we practice almost unconsciously. The hostility towards women is something that’s a priori embedded in our culture where people internalize it through social norms and customs. In reality, it’s a trap for anyone born in an already misogyny-fueled society.

This happens too much and needs to stop. We are not just wives, parents, children etc. We are individuals and should have our achievements shared as individuals and not because we are related to someone else famous.
According to Kate, such hostile behavior comes from the fact that many people feel attached to the positions they believe are their birthright. “When men think women are taking opportunities and privileges away from them, when they think women are challenging male dominance, you get backlash,” she explained.

As a way of dealing with misogyny in society, Kate believes it all comes down to men in positions of power accepting that women can surpass them without having wronged them. I think the thing is that, in this case, these men had enough money and power to just make it go away, and the people that support them largely don't care about that stuff anyway. For those who don't have that money and power, accusations can ruin a life, but the way to solve that is to ensure that every accusation is correctly followed up on and necessary prosecutions made. Just saying "don't accuse" absolutely does not help, in fact it makes things worse.

Irony: Jesuit Priest taught the course on that in my school. "Expressions of Faith and Doctrine in History", IIRC? ... The priest taught us that Jesus was Jewish, from Palestine, not a white guy from northern Europe; that letters from Paul showed women as leaders in the church, and each letter was specific to a situation, so using them for doctrine was dangerous; and slavery is always bad, b/c we are all one in God's love. And he counted "domestic enslavement", as he called it. Not that he'd let a woman be ordained, but ... at least he tried to show that what Jesus taught is not what Christians seem to "get".

Hello all- I am a Christian and here is my two cents. Firstly, I totally understand, I hate all of the things you’ve mentioned and I care deeply about the rape culture that is still encouraged today as well as the horrible discrimination in the name of Christianity (particularly against the LGBTQI+ community) but the bible says specifically to love others above yourself and that we are all equally as sinful as each other. The problem is, the extremists always scream the loudest.

Honestly, Christian here. A big part of Christianity is about spreading the gospel and teachings people about Jesus. But I think the biggest hindrance to spreading a good message like "Jesus died for everyone, loves everyone and accepts everyone" are the Christians themselves. They constantly do selfish, terrible, awful things in the name of Jesus, they spout off their verses like they're oh so holier than thou, and it lights a deep fire of anger inside me. So yeah, let's talk about it, cause I've had enough of it.

Yes, yes we do. I am a person of faith, and belong to a world-wide evangelical church. Yet the conservative attitude that God created a beautiful diverse world for us to enjoy and appreciate, but Who is okay with the subjugation, denigration, and brutalization of anyone not male and white makes me absolutely despair. It's wonderful that there are 10,000+ species of birds, for example. But somehow lots of different kinds of humans, with all the diversity in viewpoints/cultures/faiths that implies is a problem? Maybe half the police force in the US and many non developed countries. But not in most of the western world. We don't have a huge gun issue. EDIT: Since some people seem to have an issue of me only commenting on the gun part and not mentioning anything about domestic violence, well here is my stance. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. Too many people are dying at the hands of their "loved one" and something should have been done years ago. We keep hearing about perpetrators facing tougher punishments but it is yet to be seen. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. If the reoffender ends up killing someone, the judge/parole board have blood on their hands. Hopefully that satisfies some of you.

To the know it all who made a comment about nurse’s salaries, I use to work in collections for auto loans. A lot of nurses defaulted on their payments. I know this might come as a surprise but people, nurses have other bills to pay, many have children, and many are single mothers. Just because someone is a nurse doesn’t automatically equal wealthy.

As I got older and knew I’d be sent to the colonies, either for being past childbearing age or for being a very outspoken anti-Gilead activist, I was almost relieved. At least the women in the colonies have some freedom to be themselves. However, I never ever want to see us even think of pursuing that kind of path. Ever.)

Men can't control themselves? My 13 year is old son came home one afternoon and said, "I need new friends, what they did to her was wrong. I will not be a part of that." He was utterly disgusted. Imagine if more boys/men acted this way. After I was raped, my father asked what I was wearing, it was absolutely my fault. I sent him a link to the YouTube video "Tea Consent" which explains consent clearly. Why does it need to be explained?

The captain of a small town police force refused to let an officer file a report acknowledging I was assaulted -- despite the hand shaped bruises and a note from the hospital explaining why they were certain I assaulted. As I was getting in my car he mocked my Warriors in Pink stickers. I looked him in the eye, "It is the breast cancer awareness group that got me through breast cancer." Jerk. Even with the report from the hospital and a lengthy report from the National Park Rangers, it was impossible to press charges. Willing to make a fool of myself to get attention, I did get a serious restraining order. He lived far away, we weren't married and didn't live together -- if this was difficult, imagine trying to file a report on your spouse. This was 2013. Important -- if law enforcement asks if you feel safe, be honest, no matter how uncomfortable it feels.

Men DONT respect women and men DO abuse women. Sure it’s not all men, but it’s enough to make any women walking alone fearful of what,or who, could pop out of the shadows and rape them. It’s enough for many young girls to wonder why their mommy is scared of daddy. It’s enough to leave an incredibly big impact on society. Also if you think there’s a “problem” with the fact that women want and deserve equal right then you are very VERY wrong. We do and it is very fair. Women and men that work in the same job deserve the same pay and respect. Also I’m a young teen so the fact that I know this is proof that s**t need to change. Asshole.
