We in America also count our money differently, hold our eating utensils differently, hold cigarettes differently... So it's not uncommon for other cultures to do something like this as it's the norm for them.

Here we do it in that way, too. We start counting by the index, then index and middle, etc. The last one,so number five,is the only one with the thumb. In other countries, also in Europe, I've seen counting beginning by the thumb, then thumb and index, after thumb, index and middle... number four would be difficult to do in this way! But never, never as william does here.
