Wedding planners like Kaitlin regularly deal with demanding clients. As she told Bored Panda, such behavior usually comes from people close to the couple, like parents, siblings, and entourage members. They usually have unwelcome opinions, which Kaitlin says frustrates the couple and makes them feel stifled. 

“Your wedding opinions will absolutely matter when planning your own wedding, but when your job is to support another bride or groom, kindly put those opinions to the side,” she said.

Wedding ceremonies are monumental life events, and Katilin says its magnitude is likely why people can act unreasonably. However, you can prevent such tense moments from arising, and here’s her advice. 

“Have plans in place for everything, so that if someone tries to throw a wrench in the works, you have a backup,” Kaitlin said.

Like people in customer service, handling difficult people is part of the job description of being a wedding planner. Kaitlin has her own method of handling these personalities: setting clear boundaries. 

“Their own personal drama is NOT your personal drama, even if they try to make it so,” she explained. You can care deeply without sacrificing your sanity for what, at the end of the day, is still a job.”

For many people, living in the internet age means wanting to look good for the ‘gram. Because of this, Carson says people are now heavily focused on turning their weddings into fashion events. 

As he points out, some guests may feel hassled by outfit requirements, adding to the already hefty cost of attending a wedding. Therefore, brides and grooms should expect some attendees to “go rogue” and ignore the guidelines.

“Couples are getting married a little bit older in life. They’re already combining their homes,” he explained. “They do not need two sets of everything.”
