Myla Aguila was taking a walk near her home, minding her own business when she noticed something that made her stop. A boy’s slipper had fallen down a hill, and a big white duck was trying its best to bring it back to him. Luckily, Myla had her phone with her and captured the entire experience on an adorably funny video.

Looking at the video, it seems that the boy probably could’ve gotten his slipper himself. However, the duck was determined to finish the random act of kindness, so the child amused the smart bird.

But it wasn’t as easy as it sounds. Even though the hill was quite small, it still posed one hell of a challenge for the duck’s tiny feet. Nevertheless, it persisted.

Throughout the whole video, it seemed that the duck perfectly knew what it was doing. And it could be so. Researchers have determined that even young ducklings have the ability for thoughts that are often associated only with primates and other highly intelligent animals. For example, ducks even outperform supposedly “smarter” animal species in certain aspects of abstract reasoning.

And it doesn’t take them long to get there. As soon as a few hours after birth, those adorable smart animals understand concepts like “same” and “different,” remember them, and can even apply them to never-before-seen objects with no social cues or training whatsoever, researchers reported in a recent study.

When I was about 7yrs old my family was raising White Pekin ducks for breeding and for eggs. We had about 25 hatchlings. Out of them, there was a male that had a injured toe and all the others would peck at it constantly. They will pick at a wound like that until the other hatchling dies. Not sure why, just know it's true. I asked for it and my parents let me take it for my own to raise. Idk for some time that he was a boy because they are yellow as a new duck and then get white feathers. Once the white feathers come in tho, a male's tail feathers will curl up on the ends very cutely. He lived in a large box in my bedroom, with his own heat lamp and etc. He would nap with me, swim daily with support. He thought I was his mom. I named him Malcolm. He would play with balls and other toys, follow me and play like a dog, come to his name when called even after moving outside when he was grown. I would like to think that if I had been older and able to teach him more, he would have been capable and willing to do much more than anything I could imagine. We had to move when he was a couple years old and I was heartbroken. He went to live on my uncle's farm. I would visit on holidays and summer vacation and he still knew immediately who I was everytime and lived long happy days there. He was absolutely one of the smartest and best pets I've ever had. Ducks are freaking awesome!
Aww what a sweet story. My friend had a duck she named girl, I only met her one time, she followed my friend around the garden and would climb her shoulders and rest under her neck all cutely. It was obvious she was really smart and affectionate. I'm sorry you had to leave Malcom behind but I'm glad you saved him and he had a good and long life.

Some animals can sense what you want. At my grandparents house, they used to have this huge log pile in the backyard where their cat had her kittens. When they kittens were old enough they started coming out of the wood pile but they were skittish and would run back in if you approached them. One day they ran back in and I was trying to coax them out, the mother cat put her head (just her head) in the hole and made this long, soft trilling sound and the kittens ran right out and I was able to pick one up to pet it. I'm convinced she knew I wanted to pet a kitten and called them out so I could.
And there just happened to be someone in position behind the duck to take a wonderful photo montage and video. Totally natural and normal and not a setup at all. 100%.
