Guy Accidentally Leaves His Front Door Open, Gets ‘Chosen’ By A Stray Dog Who Walked In At Night
The majority of people get a pet after long consideration, planning and a drive to the local shelter. Then they spend some time getting to know their four-legged companion and if things go well, the lucky pet becomes a member of the family. However, some people have completely different stories to tell of how they were introduced to their pets and Jack Jokinen from Fishtown, Philadelphia may have the most unique one.

Recently a man named Jack Jokinen created a wholesome Twitter thread after a mystery puppy appeared in his home

Last week, Jack shared a wholesome incident on his Twitter account. On a Saturday morning, he was woken up by his wife saying that there’s an unknown dog in his house. “When we found Suzy it was a combination of scared and confused. We had no idea how she got here and worried someone was in our house. She was scared and shaking from being wet and cold,” Jack told Bored Panda.
Apparently my front door was WIDE open and he just walked in pic.twitter.com/okOkmcVZdr

The man proceeded to check the doors and windows which were all closed. Clearly, something was off. Where did this mystery puppy come from? Well, the only way to figure it out was to check the security cameras. That’s what Jack did and it turned out that the adorable puppy didn’t just appear out of thin air.

The video showed that Jack, who recently became a father, forgot to properly close his front door which was left wide open during the night. Here’s what happened next: a stray, injured and malnourished puppy was lumping down the street during the cold night and noticed an open door to the warm house. The puppy didn’t shy away from inviting herself in. Then a thoughtful stranger walked by and closed the door, unknowingly locking the dog inside and making her a member of the new family.

When Jack found the dog, he realized that she needs urgent help and took her to the vet. It was confirmed that the 8-year-old stray has no chip, is severely malnourished and injured. “Suzy has a heart murmur, hook worn, infected paws, pad damage and atrophy in one of the legs from it being so damaged. She needs a bunch of dental work but is very underweight so we need to get her weight up and have some tests to make sure she can be put under for procedures.”

Surely, Jack knew that somebody has to take good care of this dog and instead of surrendering her to the shelter, he welcomed the new pup into his home. He named the lucky dog Suzy who now lives with Jack’s family and another dog George. “We decided to adopt her because she had no owner, and our first dog George has brought us so much joy, we could imagine just putting her in the system,” he said.

“She has been great with our family, including our baby. She is very sweet and just wants to be loved. Suzy is on the mend and getting better every day. Her body is filling out and she is on antibiotics to treat some of her problems. Shes got a long road ahead but is on the way,” Jack told us.

He constantly updated people on the situation and told them that he’s adopting the puppy
Here is the full story of this dog and next steps.

The wholesome story quickly went viral with many people left in awe of this lucky coincidence which saved Suzy’s life. However, the family was left with a hefty $1000 bill after the vet visit and are asking people for donations. You can donate via Jokinen’s Venmo account and PayPal account.

“The twitter thread took a life of its own. I never expected it to turn into this but Suzy is now the internets dog. People have donated about $18k towards Suzy’s medical bills. We hope they arent that high and we can take the remaining funds to donate to a worthwhile cause.”

What a great man and amazing family! I just love this story....And like he said whoever had this beautiful baby prior is a s****y person. Please keep updated on her progress!
What an awesome dog and an awesome man! We should care for God's creatures
yes. even spiders. spiders are SO misunderstood!!! like, even though we fear them, it doesn't give us the right to kill them. without spiders, mosquitoes would be killing people a whole lot faster. I love spiders. even jumping spiders. but my mom hates them. but even thought she hates them, she still calls me to get the spider and take it outside. she knows spiders are helpful to the planet! so instead of killing, shes helping. I want everyone with arachnophobia to take a moment to think about this, and next time you encounter a spider, just peacefully grab a cup, slide a piece of under it, and take the spider outside without doing any harm. you don't know how much this could make a difference to our planet.

God Bless you, and your wife, I imagine it was a combined decision to adopt, I wish there could be, many more people like you, Just to think, how many people saw that poor little girl, and ignored her, it makes me sick, this happens in many cities, the city animal welfare should be picking up strays, otherwise they are left on the street, hungry, and at times hit by a car, and suffer more, they didn't ask to be born and dumped, I wonder how long she has been on the street, I think, a very long time !!!
Hi Suzy, i just made a donation to your hoomans to help you get better!! I am glad that you stumbled into their loving home and you are being cared for as all puppies and kitties should be!! I hope that you continue to grow stronger and healthier as the days pass!! You have great home now and you are safe!! Sending many licks and love🐾
Thank you, Jack, for taking Suzy in and being such a great caregiver.
What a wonderful ending, and major head up for the random guy who shut their door :)
Oh my god! Bless his heart! If only there were more people like him in the world!
God bless you Jack. A few more of you's in this world and I think we'll be okay.
So many comments, it shows how we feel about a severely neglected stray dog, and the hero who saved her life, she likely had a few days left to live, now known as Suzy, she is adorable with a sweet face,I would love to hug her, there are homeless people, and stray cats and dogs in many cities, those cities should hang their heads in shame, there is NO lack of money, as I have said before, the money is simply in the wrong hands, some of those are greedy, some use money for the wrong reasons, also, in some cities, as mine, there is a serious shortage of homes for seniors, where is the money !!! an art center, new city hall, a library, and million dollar homes !!!
My city is putting in a new stadium/ event center and an Olympics Museum. No telling how many $ that is costing. In the meantime, we have a severe situation with the people who are homeless. The shelters have created more beds, so that is a good thing. They depend on private donations. Our animal shelter is a "no kill" one, and they also depend on donations. I adopted a dog from there 3 years ago, and he is a joy.

OH MY LORD!!! YOU COULD ACTUALLY SEE THE DOG'S RIBS!!! this is so sad, and i'm a cat person. yet here I am looking at a post about a poor, hungry pupper while I own a cat and a baby dragon.
I don't know why you got a downvote. Here's an upvote. Sounds like your pets are well loved. :-)

Same here, with both dogs and cats, many times over in my life—-and they were all just the bestest buddies. I love the ones I have now, and constantly miss the ones who have passed on.

There are angels on this planet and I think I've just fallen in love with the entire family who took in Suzy. Somehow, she wasn't an accident or a coincidence; she was meant to be. And the subhuman who let her down, read her story and weep, mate. You're not worth her love.
Thank you! You were meant to take care of her; she not only chose you, but the kind stranger who closed your door, thus keeping her safe, was i really believe something that was supposed to happen...
Not even going to blame onions for this, I'm fully crying. Poor darling pooch, so glad she's warm and safe now. What a gorgeous family to take her on with a newborn too!
This is AMAZING. She was meant to be with you. Thank you for taking care of this little girl. She already looks better. Do you have a web page for her? I would love to know and follow. I'll donate for sure.
Bless y JJ, Suzy, and George. My infinite gratefulness and respect for bringing this poor puppy back to life. She chose u and brough u and George a huge blessing. Thank you, thank you, thank you x 10000000000
U can see how Suzi’s face changes as she gains trust and happyness... her eyes are wider, her ears and head are raised. Before, she looked like she just surrendered. Man this is so nice!! Thank u JJ for givin us faith in humanity.

I am so happy that it was your door left open that night! That sweetheart of a dog just knew it would be a life changing moment if she just had the courage to walk through your open door, and she did. It was life changing for her and your family and thank goodness for that! It is such a heartwarming story that shows that good people still exist. You, because you welcomed and cared for her and the stranger that did the right thing that night by securing your home. The fact that it was open could have created a much worse experience. You had a guardian angel that night. I wonder if that person has come forward to you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for rescuing Suzy even though she is an older dog. What a great place this world would be if everyone was like you and your family!
When I came across this post, it was at 666 up-votes. :-) So, I, as the Horned God Re-born at this past Winter Solstice, have given it the 667th up-vote, so now it's the Neighbour of the Beast... *snicker* Ok, now that cheese is out of the way... WHAT A WONDERFUL MAN! Suzy, you are a very lucky dog to finally have found such a good and loving home. I bestow the Cone of Shame on whoever it was that did you so much wrong in the past. I'm so glad you're on the mend, now, and have a loving family who'll care for you in your twilight years. Much love, puppers, and you and George have fun! <3
The new owner JJ is a hero and so are the thousands of people who donated money to help Suzy get healthy and happy. I really do hope that surplus donations go towards rescuing other animals in desperate need of love and care.
Thank you Jack for your compassionate heart. You're the better part of humanity. Every day presents us with a pivotal choice to harm or heal, from the lifestyle options to unexpected call for mercy. Thank you the Jokinen family. "A dog has a soul of a philosopher." - Plato, Greek philosopher (427 - 347 BC/BCE)....he knows what he's talking about.
Huge props to the lad who shut their door, helping ensure that Suzy wouldn't wander back out. This story gives all the feels!
The lad who shut their door might done that for different reason and did not know Suzy was inside.
Load More Replies...Growing up, I only had two dogs that were not strays/someone's discards. During my childhood we would spend summers on my dad's family's old home place, in the original house. Folks had a BAD habit of dropping unwanted pets off on the dirt road the house was on as it was a quarter mile in both directions to any other houses. The ones that were usually dropped off were puppies or young dogs that had probably just been weaned. Back in those days you didn't have shelters like you have now to take discarded pets. Fortunately, it didn't happen too often that we could not find homes for them.
The cage, that is actually called a crate, before I understood the reason myself, actually pups feel safe in their crate,it's good also for house training, if it's not over sized, a dog will not pee where they sleep, go online and ask questions, especially if considering to get a pup !!!
