i don't understand why someone puts its dog in this (for the dog) dangerous position, (I don't believe that he got there by its own..) just for a photo? - most people love animals, you could just take a normal photo and they will love it, so why?

If you don't believe that the dog got there on its own, you probably haven't met very many dogs... I know my cats end up in that sort of position every few days. Dogs, less often, but, yes, I've seen stuff like this in my friends' dogs. They get up there, they look puzzled, they get annoyed when you try to take 'em down -- "C'mon, Dad -- I can figure this one out!" -- and eventually they get down on their own. Or they whine for help. This looks like a dog who hasn't gotten to the "Okay, fine, Mom/Dad -- I guess I'm stuck. Fix it" stage.

have this book, it is called 'Maddie on Things' and it is TERRIFIC. This gentleman got this hound as a rescue, and travels the country telling stories and taking pictures and its all for shelter awareness. This isn't cruel, honest. Google image search 'maddie on things'.

Poor puppy! I hope this dog was rushed to the vet and already sorted out before this photo was taken! When a dog experiences facial swelling, it is an immediate ER situation! It is a sign the dog's life is at risk, just like with people, and this may progress so quickly every second counts.

Awww! Poor puppy! My dog ate a bee when he was a pup, he was looking like an elephant. Even his ears were swollen. We had a tough time finding a vet on a Sunday afternoon, but things ended just fine.

Anthropomorphizing animals isn't a great idea in general, and especially in this context. Dogs don't smile, they pant. This dog is likely in pain and on the way to a clinic.
