Artist Imagines How Disney Characters Would Look As Oil Paintings, And You’ll Want To Hang Them In Your Room
No doubt you have seen an abundance of artists sharing their own renditions of Disney characters. And still, we have managed to find another gem, perhaps even the fairest of them all.
American artist Heather Theurer creates Disney-inspired oil paintings that some viewers have likened to a Renaissance art style, however, the artist herself says the style is more akin to the Pre-Raphaelites of the late 19th century.
Theurer says that her aim is not to re-create what has already been done by other artists or Disney itself - but rather to transcend the ordinary and go beyond and down the rabbit hole, in search of new meaning.
When creating her beautiful paintings, Theurer strived to go past mere physical resemblances of the cartoon characters, focusing instead on capturing and conveying their struggles, hope, and pride - attributes that wouldn't be obvious to the naked eye.
All that attention to detail did not go to waste, scroll down below to see for yourself!

Lilo & Stitch
I do not like the treatment that Stitch has, it looks like a ceramic statue.
Mulan
Her face is too Zhang Ziyi/ kawaii-girly for me - the disney original was more fearless and tomboyishly-pretty (as the heroïne should be) . Nice colour depth and shadow-work tho **
Why does heroine girl SHOULD look like anything at all?
Load More Replies...That's exactly what I thought when I first saw this pic!
Load More Replies...it's beautiful, but if he draw the iconic "mushu" beside her then it'll be perfect
I don't see her passing as a man. Mulan would have had much more boyish features.
Merida
Elsa, Anna And Olaf
Because it's from one of the first scenes from "Frozen" when they were kids ;)

I like this contrast between her elegant clothes and this cooking pot - excellent reference to the film. Also, these water lilies in the background are beautiful.
Dumbo
Heartbreaking....watching a mother be separated from her baby...I still remember crying at this film as a child...
I"m not crying you're crying. Dumbo (and the circuis in general) is so sad. Just the trailer for the live action version of Dumbo coming out next year makes me cry.
If this doesn’t tug at your heart strings....”Mommy, they make me wear this little hat.” Heartbreaking.
Gosh why always I see this scene or a paint or something related to this I cry or ugly sob...
Alice
Oh nice! I know I've seen that kind of expression somewhere
Load More Replies...Alice is suffering from insanity. Her visage in this painting is absolute perfection for the mindset. Disney made her far too docile and sane. We're all mad here.
This is cool! Dig those flamingos and her Macaulay-expression. Great hidden reference to MJ and his fantasy-land!
Belle
I was just thinking I've seen this face. Thank you.

Peter Pan And Wendy
Again, this picture looks more unsettling compared to the Disney version. This look on Peter Pan's face is kinda creepy - he looks more mature than he should and his eyes are just hungry. It is a look of a boy (man?) who can cause problems. Despite it - or because of it - this illustration with its lights and shadows, with toys on the floor and focused Wendy's expression is awesome.
Mr. Toad
Some of them have a very Renaissance flare, but others have a delightful Norman Rockwell charm! Loved them!!
I don't know the movie or this character itself. But he looks great in his steampunk-like costume. Does he in the original movie wear the same clothes?
The Wind in the WIllows, a children's classic.
Load More Replies...Disney Wiki: J. Thaddeus Toad is the main protagonist from The Wind in the Willows, which made up a segment of the 1949 feature film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.

I love these, they make the Disney girls look like real people instead of perfectly animated figures. Very nice job.
Brilliant Artists - But why does it have to be Disney characters all the time? Hasn't boredpanda done Disney characters to death.
If I could draw and paint, this is the style I would want to do it in. I love the classical, old paintings of portraits.
I see her at Comic Con every year, she does some amazing work! You should see her other work, my mom buys one of her horse prints every year.
