“They’re Asking To Hire A Stay-At-Home Parent”: Job Listing For Nanny Goes Viral For Having Ridiculous Requirements
124Kviews
If you have ever been looking for a job, you’ve probably come across AT LEAST a few job listing ads with an incredibly long list of requirements and an unreasonably low salary. We’ve all been there, and it’s always annoying. Though if there were ever a contest for the most ridiculous job postings with the most ridiculous salaries—I have no idea why there would be such a contest—this ad that recently went viral on Reddit would definitely be a top-scoring one.
A few days ago, a user on Reddit shared an interesting job listing ad they happened across. To be more specific, the listing was for a nanny, though the list of requirements and responsibilities was borderline offensive. And the salary for the job was even more ridiculous—they were offering $13/hour. “Be a very specific age, have a bachelor’s degree, be a nanny, housekeeper, teacher and personal shopper…and more, all for $13/hr,” the redditor wrote in the description of their post.
This job listing ad attracted the attention of thousands of people on Reddit

If the job description seemed too long and you were too lazy to read it, let us sum up it for you. This person is looking for a nanny for their two kids, aged 8 and 13, who must have a bachelor’s degree, a car, must be good with pets, must be bilingual, willing to travel, could cook, help kids with homework, do groceries and personal shopping, and take care of the house. In addition, the nanny must be from 25 to 30 years old.
Many people on Reddit found this job listing crazy, ridiculous, or even mildly offensive. In just two days, the post gained almost 40k upvotes and received over 2k comments.

maybe they missed a 0 or 00? lol 13/h.... unicorns are more realistic than this.
I’d be more inclined to believe in the unicorns than this being a decent job..ye gods
Unicorns were real. They went extinct. "The Siberian unicorn, known as the Elasmotherium sibiricum, died out approximately 29,000 years ago,"
@Harry and Tabitha, pooping rainbow glitters is implied. 29,000 years ago, this would have been a reasonabl compensation for being a parent to other people's kids.
any person with a bachelor's degree probably wouldn't be a nanny, first of all. secondly, you are paying this person 13/h for basically raising your child?
I was a nanny after college. I had a bachelor's degree. But I got paid a decent wage. A lot of the nannies I knew had degrees. We were trying to figure out what we wanted to do, or were having a hard time finding an entry-level job in the area we wanted. It can be a really good job. But this offer was insane.
I did, thanks. You should figure out when your advice is needed or wanted. Or applicable.
Thomas, some people change their minds, even after a degree. Or there are multiple paths opened by said degree.

Nannies can make decent money are a lot of times are college educated, but the grocery store aldi pays more than this an hour and the cashiers there get to sit
My daughter runs multiple restaurants. They pay their dishwashers $15. Why anyone with a bachelors degree and bilingual, would take on this much responsibility for someone else's children, cooking, cleaning, tutoring, and I'm sure anything else this woman can think up with no benefits, no holidays off, and is apparently on call all the time for $13 an hour is crazy. With your education and skills, you can do so much better.
Actually lots of people with bachelor degrees nanny. The pay is unfair and she sounds like a terrible boss, but I've worked worse jobs.
TiredMomma Just because you are being paid badly, doesn''t mena others can't complain about thier bad pay. If you are unhappy with the situation, go and blame the people who are responsible for this insane system.
I've a feeling there were more expectations of this poor nanny than were posted in the ad. Little "extra''s" tacked on while nanny was on the job. i.e. taking the kids for a haircut but having to pay for the cab to get there.
Except for people who have a college degree in stuff like children’s education. Your comment is kind of offensive to nannies and the not mutually exclusive “people with bachelors degrees” group. You can make good money nannying, and when the economy is so s**t that people with degrees are stuck having to be cashiers to survive, being a nanny is a real step up.
The job would be fine...for a realistic salary, which also includes extra, such as allowances for driving etc. 13 dollars sound not merely too little but rather insolent.
