When she said 'you'll understand with age', she didn't mean you'll want a parrot when you're old too. She meant you'll understand how with age, you'll reminisce about time and loved ones lost, the memories of your youth, and how this is probably the last chance you'll ever have to do what you've always dreamt of doing.

Your Mum sounds amazing! Just like my Mum, who has decided to get a Maine C**n cat in addition to our two dogs and is planning on getting two birds in the near future. She is 74, so arguing with her is futile! She uses "I want to enjoy what time I have left"...who can argue with that?!

Does she have a plan for where these pets will be re-homed after she's gone or unable to care for them? That would be my only worry, if my mom decided she wanted a bunch of animals. Plus some birds can live a LONG time!
