Woman Explains What Taiwan Actually Did To Bring Their Coronavirus Case Count To 0 In A Now-Viral Twitter Thread
While the COVID-19 cases in the United States are almost exponentially rising with each passing day, some countries have already gotten the situation under control and people there have been back to their normal lives for quite some time. Sounds surreal, doesn’t it?
Turns out, the country of Taiwan, which has a population of around 23.6 million people and has had 720 total cases along with only 7 deaths, has already managed to deal with the pandemic and residents have been back to a normal life since February. How’d they do that, you ask? The answer is relatively simple—strict policies.
Twitter user @thatalicewu recently traveled to Taiwan and decided that it was important to go online and share her experience. Her Twitter thread where she shares some things that have helped Taiwan deal with the COVID-19 situation has quickly gone viral and it currently has almost 43k likes and over 13k retweets.

In her Twitter thread, Alice shares that the government tracks everyone coming into the country via their cell phones. After getting through the airport, every traveler is provided with a “COVID-safe” car that drives them to their home or to a hotel.
“There is no contact with anyone,” Alice shares her experience of quarantining in a hotel

While a person is quarantining in a hotel, all meals are left outside their door. There’s no direct contact with anyone. In addition, each day, a person receives a call from the health department checking up on their well-being. After 15 days of isolation, a person is free to go.
If there’s a new case of COVID-19, each person that was in significant contact gets notified

And since most people are voluntarily signed up for contact tracing, if someone decides to break the quarantine, the government sees their movement and the person can get fined and gets to pay a significant amount of money.

And even with the situation being mostly sorted out, people in Taiwan still voluntarily choose to wear masks in public places, just in case.
“This could have been our lives too,” the woman adds

If you gave your credit card information or biometrics to your phone, you can be tracked and Apple has your information. No one is being oppressed in Taiwan, it’s not Communist, and they got over the f*****g pandemic before it became a thing in the US with seven deaths. Seven. And not a single recorded case in 200 f*****g days. If you’re going to yell “It’s a f*****g plandemic,” sure. Just acknowledge that if it was engineered, it is even more dangerous, so that’s not an excuse not to wear a f*****g mask. You’re not sacrificing anything but having to wear a piece of f*****g cloth over your face when you go out and having to sit and watch TV all day like you did before the virus.
Yell it louder for the covidiots in the back lol.
Load More Replies...The western world focused so much on the individual that it forgot we live in a society
This has been my take as well. Individualism is fun, but it mixes horribly with stupidity and corruption.
Load More Replies...Can you imagine what today would be like if everyone, including our President, Congress, & every one of us had just decided to follow science & listen to doctors. Country Population Covid Cases Deaths Taiwan 24 million 720 7 (seven) US 330 million 15.2 million 286,000
Firstly, on an unrelated issue: My family has been doing everything right during this pandemic because we are trying to protect my father and my aunt who are both immunocompromised. Unfortunately, some stupid people in our community, including our manager at work wasn't taking it seriously and now we have been exposed to this virus. Secondly, this is how a competent government deals with a pandemic. Not by downplaying it and pretending it's not that big of a deal. Thirdly, if us Americans had not let this virus become a political issue, we would probably be over it already. Finally, to all the people who complain about the radical left: the two parties switched platforms over sixty years ago. The Republican party is no longer the party of Abraham Lincoln.
During the Great Depression, as I recall. Abraham Lincoln today would be a moderate Democrat. For all who purport to be Christians because of conservatism, allow me to remind you that Jesus Christ was one of the most radical people in human history, and he preached love, grace, peace, tolerance, and acceptance, subjects for which today’s Democrats are striving, (minus, perhaps, the religion). Donald Trump and Abraham Lincoln are sure as hell not members of the same ideology or the same political views. If President Trump was alive during the Civil War, he would have led the secession, and tried to deport all of the illegal black immigrants.

Taking Taiwan and New Zealand as examples, it goes to show you what having a strong, independent, open-minded FEMALE leader can do. I bet they had no trouble getting basic necessities in the shoppes as well.
I have no bad word about these female leaders and they dealt with this pandemic exemplary but don't forget that both Taiwan and New-Zealand are remote islands which makes it much easier to regulate the people that come in and go out of the country.

are you in america? because thats whats happening here too [facepalm]
Load More Replies...That is because people in Taiwan are responsible and conscientious. Even if the government in Serbia did the exact same thing with measures it would turn out differently because in my country most people are totally irresponsible. I think some act just from spite, or refuse to believe there is a disease. But also, measures brought during pandemics here are just awful and inefficient.
Australia is pretty much the same, Western Australia hasn’t had local transmission in like 6 months, the only cases are people returning from overseas in hotel quarantine, we don’t even need to wear masks yet, a few states had little outbreaks but they got them under control pretty quickly, we can currently travel between most states and unless you are travelling you would have no idea there is a global pandemic on
My ONLY question is what if you leave your phone at the hotel / home? How would they know? I'm just curious.
I guess trust works in both ways. If you leave your phone you'll not get notification about possible contact with infected person. I can tell you how it was made in my country: ppl with covid had to install programme which was not only tracking but demanded to send selfies ever now and than. Worked terrible with being sick, having fever. Waking up to make photo, having to keep sound on, you name it. And outside walking can be checked by street cameras.

It's not too different in Australia... and we also have the pandemic under control. Freedom requires concern for others... the selfish 'freedom' some U.S. citizens rave about isn't freedom at all when others are constantly infringing on your rights (i.e. to stay virus-free, to not be shot etc.).
Yop! If everyone just had followed the recommendations for 15 days, 2020 would not have last 35 months
The question is not about freedom; it's about the "me me me me me!" culture.
Why no one is talking about Vietnam, they tackled the virus very fast. Also Taiwan and NZ are island, it's a lot easier for border control. Anyway no one wants to admit that a communist country did better than western countries.
The function of the government is to literally care for the people, in every sense of the word. If it’s not doing that, it isn’t a government, it’s a hostage situation.
Ugh. Why can’t us Americans just do this??? (I’m looking at you, KAREN)
The government subsidizes the cost. I imagine it would cover basic accommodations, but less so with luxury hotels. And I'm not entirely sure, but food is probably likewise subsidized.
Load More Replies...This only worked cuz they don't have a bunch of red-hatted, flat-earth, anti-vax people living there. :)
In South Korea, we have done mostly the same but with outbreaks. The outbreaks are from people not wearing their masks at gatherings (church, party, work, protest, etc). I'm American and I just don't get the resistance to wearing a cloth over your face for a while. Medical personnel have done so for decades with no ill-effects. We were asked to sacrifice a lot more during WW11 and everyone did their part. That same society can't suck it up and wear a flippin mask??
15 days isolation? Not possible where I live ... I'm alone with no relatives. And work? No-one will pay 15 days ... impossible. Sorry, but no.
I think you do. You just don’t like it, so you invent something else based on your personal feeling rather than any evidence. Your brain doesn’t really have an option other than to accept evidence. You’re changing your own mind.
Load More Replies...What is "normal" about a pandemic? Staying inside and wearing a mask to keep from killing others is a small price to pay.
Load More Replies...Seven deaths at that rate is equivalent to 97 deaths in the US per capita. Ninety-seven. That sounds much more acceptable than the 290,000 that have died in the US thus far. I wouldn’t mind losing a wee bit of freedom to handle this virus at that rate. Besides, take into account the population density of Taiwan. 7% of the US population in an area the size of New Jersey. So that’s remarkable.
