Emily Hackler’s post on Facebook about how a police officer stalked her went viral. The officer from Rossford in Ohio used Emily’s license plate number to find out who she was after following Emily in a black truck, and later sent her unwanted text messages on Facebook.
Officer Glenn Goss Jr. was suspended after this incident. His badge and gun were taken away. Goss then resigned. Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched and the Rossford Police Department Chief plans to get in touch with Emily to discuss what happened. This is not the first time that Goss has acted this way.
21-year-old Emily’s post on Facebook was shared more than 36k times and received over 4.6k comments. Scroll down to see what messages the officer sent to the woman and how people and the authorities reacted to this disturbing event.

The Mayor of Rossford, Neil MacKinnon III, confirmed on Tuesday, June 16 that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has placed Goss under investigation for alleged misconduct. The Mayor said that they’d first thought of asking the Wood County Sheriff to do the investigation, however, Goss had previously worked there and this might have caused problems with transparency.
Goss had used the Police Department’s database during his shift to collect information about Emily whom he’d passed on his way to work. Goss is the son of Rossford’s former police chief.
“It’s an invasion of privacy for sure. He was in his personal vehicle. You’re not allowed to stop or look up anyone’s information without probable cause, so the fact that he was not in his official work vehicle, it got me thinking, ‘How did this happen? Why did he search my plate number to get my information?’ It did make me feel very uneasy,” Emily told The Blade.
Rossford Police Chief Todd Kitzler said about the incident, “I’m disappointed, that’s my feeling right now. But I don’t want to jump to any conclusions until the investigation is done. It’s a very serious allegation, and if you want my feelings, I’m disappointed.”
He added that Goss made a “huge lapse in judgment” but added that he is, overall, “very proud of the Rossford Police Department and the officers.”
This may not be the first time that Goss stalked women. 26-year-old Taylor Yarder said that Goss stopped her for speeding last year. She explained that he was professional but later on sent her messages on Facebook. “You were almost in trouble. The next person I stopped wasn’t so lucky haha,” was one of the things he wrote to Taylor.
She didn’t report the incident when it happened but has saved the messages and took them to the Police Department after seeing Emily’s story. The Mayor of Rossford said that he knows of a total of 3 complaints against Goss in total but did not want to discuss the third allegation.

I had a 40 year old married cop when I was 17 stalk me for months until I moved to a different state for college. When I was gone a year he tracked me down at my work by telling my school I had a warrant for my arrest. Wasn't true. He just wanted to know where I was. Nothing happened to him when I complained 50 times. I had to move out of the country for it to stop.

This is really unprofessional, i imagine this could happen in any country but maybe the US police need a bit more training or vetting? A few bad cops can taint the whole system.

There are more stories about good cops leaving the force because they are disgusted with the way crooked cops run the show than there are stories of crooked and bad cops forced to leave. Even in this story; the bad cop resigned, but did he get punished? It could well be that he started a new career with another police department within 1 week after he resigned.

Just imagine how he could’ve caused her so much grief and even ruined her life after she turned him down, if she didn’t have his stalker texts—-with his selfie included!—-as evidence to publicly post. He could’ve had his “brothers in blue” harass her everywhere she went, and even gotten BS charges against her to put on her record and ruin the rest of her life. And don’t think someone like him wouldn’t do something like that. It’s happened before—-a lot—-the most extreme being cops murdering their wives who were trying to divorce them.

Next time I hear/see anyone tell me I'm too hard on cops? This. Yes, they stalk you. Yes, they harass you. Yes, they tell you they'll make your life miserable fi you don't give what they want in a total off-duty situation. (A parking spot. A discount. Cutting down a healthy tree so they can shoot people better from their front door, no joke on that last one, alas.) ________ANd to the trolls? I have no arrest record, never broke a law knowingly, never even a dang speeding ticket. So tell me again, cops only bother "troublemakers"... Nope. Anyone in their way, or who says, "Your badge is only good when you are on duty".

This was creepy, inappropriate, and a complete abuse of his power. What person would think it is alright to use police department resources for something like this? First he followed her to get her license plate number and then he uses the police database to find her information. I'll bet he would arrest her just to get to talk to her in person.

Looking back at all the time I got in touch with police and counting the amount of time it was actually nice... 1 on 10th? Yes, something need to be done. I'm fine to give power to people to protect me, but they clearly went a step too far since.

I had such a thing going on while living in Ghana. My parents sent me money, so I went to the bank but I had to fill in some forms before receiving it. No problem. When I was at the beach with my friends that night I got calls and a lot of messages from a guy, saying I'm hot and begging me to go on a date with him and those stuff. Turned out that the man working at the bank took my informations from the forms, even my ghanaian phone number, and he didn't mind that I was around with my ghanaian boyfriend. I talked to the bank the next morning and guy got suspended. Some people don't know where the line of appropriate behavior ends, and creepiness starts.

Pushy men (or women) are bad enough, but the added abuse of power element just takes it to a whole other (criminal) level. I met one in the wild once. Not a cop, but still pushy as hell. I was at a club without my boyfriend and he was insistent that I needed a new one and it ought to be him. Kept going on about how he was a surgeon, owned his own plane, yadda yadda and whatever. I couldn't have cared less and made it pretty clear that I wasn't interested. That kind of c**p never impressed me anyway. Little man would not take no for an answer though. Finally I agreed to put his number in my phone just so I could get him to shut up and go away. I think it's still in my phone actually under Pushy Surgeon. Ironically, my friends and I looked up the hospital where he claimed to work the next day and couldn't find his name anywhere. I'm fairly certain that sad little man just made it all up.

This aHole Needs to be thrown in prison with the general population. Guards should be able to. let prisoners hurt the c**p out of him. I am sure not the first time it happened! Many people do not report. bad cops because of retaliation. I don't care about the color of people's skin. It's happening no matter what. Proud of this woman!

I had a similar situation happen to me. Officer was a friend of my grandmother's, but I was visiting from out of state (tags on my truck were NY, I was in FL ) Showed up at the bar she and I were at, came back after his shift and hung out. K, whatever. Followed us back to her house "to make sure we were ok". Next morning I went back to the place I was actually staying and he cruised the place and CALLED ME ON MY CELL that i hadn't given him Told him i was furious and would have NO problem going to his superiors if he didnt leave me be.

I have a friend who works for the FBI and had an ex with a very shaky past. He was harassing her and I asked if she could use the FBI resources to get some info on him to stop him. She told me she would be fired IMMEDIATELY if she tried to use the resources for a personal issue. This should be the case for cops too. No excuse for this kind of behavior.

What if he didn't stop with just messages. What if he went to where they had their address listed and waited around for them. What if he followed them to their work. To see if they were married or dating. To see what their scheduals were. Lots of what ifs that could have happened from him using the computer at work to track a plate number to get a phone number to text a woman he had not right to. Maybe there needs to be a little more oversight on why someone is looking up a number in the database.

What that cop did was illegal, harrasment, disgusting, out of line [...] and it needs to be stopped, as well as punished. Also there are many causes on why issues like that aren't noted as it should be. But: It also isn't right or legal what has been done with the picture or the name. As long as the department itself or he by himself didn't gave its/his consent it shouldn't have been made public. *** just imagine following situation: you are using some standart Dating site. Someone is contacting you. OP seems nice. You are chatting. OP and you got attached to each other, which is getting as far as to sexually detailed texts. Next thing you know, that Social services and police is knocking, showing a search order and an arrest warrant. Next day you see your picture in public with the headline "dangerous pedophile caught" - OP is 13 and destroyed your live by implying to be an adult. Nice, right

What's your point? If he didn't grab her by the pussy (to quote a wise man) it's not harrassment? It's harrassment, it's creepy and offensive. I had a coworker who did some things like that, taking pictures of strangers on the beach thinking it was me and sending me those pictures, sending me texts telling "your home window is open you may get cold", "randomly" coming across when i walked my dog and other creepy things. It's not really cool to have a stalker, to know that someone is watching you all the time. And as a cop it makes it worse, they must protect, not harrass.
