Without wanting to sound rude. Can someone please explain this fetishisation of the military in the US? My country had mandatory service until 2008. Pretty much everyone has served. Literally no one is running around expecting special treatment because of it. We also don't randomly go up to people to thank them for their service. Yes, veterans do get some special allowances and a card that gives them special discounts under certain conditions.
