I designed dresses to make girls look like I’d like them to…
Once, I was on a holiday, visiting a friend in Indonesia. My feet in the pool, white wine at hand, sketchbook on my lap. I drew a nice ’60s style mini dress and asked a local dressmaker to fix this thing for the lead singer of my band the Spinshots.
Some time later I thought of another dress for Flora Dolores and after that being a success again, I thought ‘maybe I can make quite some girls happy with this kind of designs’.
I designed 7 dresses under the codename ‘The Magnificent Seven’, started up ‘Comic Sexy with my childhood friend André, and asked 7 goodlooking friends to pose in prototypes of my designs.
I recorded a single ‘Comic Sexy” with my band the Spinshots – it turned out that Ennio Morricone’s mixing table was in Amsterdam! So we recorded over that for good spirits.
Jelle Mulder, a great photographer and also a friend, took the pictures, Clarissa Berner and Lisa Eliazer did make up and hair, Kristine Galiher and Alice O’Connell did the styling. Esther te Brake was the dress maker.
It’s very funny to see such a great and professional operating team of friends working on this thing that started with just a sketch at the swimming pool.
