This Japanese Artist Uses Soft Clay To Carve Out Hyper-Realistic Clothing And Accessories (30 Pics)
Interview With ArtistJapanese sculptor Masami Yamamoto uses soft clay to carve stunning garments. From socks to shirts and underwear—her creations appear astonishingly real and are on display in exhibitions. Masami’s creations are often based on intimate clothing as a means of potentially creating portraits of the owners of the said items.
While there is an impressive dedication to realism—Yamamoto is careful to detail each delicate fold of the clothing as she doesn’t use any pre-made molds for her sculptures. Instead, Masami studies each reference making sure to recreate it as closely as possible.

I absolutely love all of these, but especially these gloves. The artistry is incredible, and I wish I could afford to own them, just so I could marvel at the work, and run my fingers over the seams and wrinkles.
HOW???? my mind is literally freaking out. The texture looks so cottony and soft you can even see the little fuzz balls from "years of wear. The buttons, wrinkles, even the years of dirt / wear. I'm freaking out people.
She definitely has an eye for detail. To elevate the every day into fine art... what a gift. I will pay much more attention to these details as I fold laundry from now on.
I have almost the same handkerchief from my grandmother. I think I will need to get it out and admire it for a while, since I can't have this one.
The delicacy and fragility of the straps and ribbon are stunning, but I would be afraid to touch this one.
Yes, but I'm afraid that they'd break when I try to put them on
Load More Replies...Wow I might have thought these were real if I didn’t look at the title
I upvoted almost all your works, looks like I am on a upvoting spree on my first day as a official bored panda community member! They are all fantastic, you must have lots of time, effort, and care to make this artworks....
I would assume any bra made of ceramic would be quite uncomfortable haha
Load More Replies...Are these 'carved' or are they dipped? If you thin clay (or concrete) to a very watery consistency & repeatedly dip fabric etc. You get this type of results.
Hard to tell they're clay, except for the ones standing up with no support. They all look very real. So real in fact, that it was like scrolling through pictures of people's underwear with no context! 😆
