Celebrity Chef Anne Burrell Passes Away At 55 After Being Found “Unconscious And Unresponsive”
Anne Burrell, one of the most beloved faces from Food Network’s most chaotic kitchen show, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 55.
The popular chef was found “unconscious and unresponsive” at her home in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday, June 17.
The New York City Police Department said she was pronounced lifeless at the scene.

Anne’s body was found after the NYPD responded to a call about “an unconscious and unresponsive 55-year-old female” around 7:50 a.m. local time.
Emergency medical services pronounced her “deceased on scene.”
Anne’s family released a statement after she passed, leaving behind her husband Stuart Claxton and his son Javier.
“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” the family said.

“Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal,” they added.
With her signature blond hair and booming laugh, Anne lit up kitchens across the country for several years.
She was best known for being the longtime host of Worst Cooks in America, the show where some of the country’s most hopeless home cooks are put through a culinary boot camp, with Anne as their tough-love mentor.

Anne, born on September 21, 1969, fell in love with cooking through her own mother’s home recipes. She was also inspired by television icon Julia Child.
The New York native studied English and Communication at Canisius College in Buffalo before immersing herself in the culinary world.
She enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America and eventually went on to work in some of the most prestigious restaurants in New York.

Her first TV gig as a sous chef on Food Network’s Iron Chef America in 2005, after which she hosted her own series called Secrets of a Restaurant Chef between 2008 and 2012.
She served as the host for Worst Cooks in America from 2010 to 2024.

Anne was a Food Network staple and has appeared on other shows as well, sometimes as a host, judge, and even competitor.
“I truly in my heart feel that your food knows how you’re feeling when you cook it and it reacts accordingly. I like to put happy and joy into my food, and it’s not so serious,” she said in April this year during an interview with Tasting Table.

The kitchen queen tied the knot with Stuart Claxton in 2021 in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York.
The happy bride told People at the time that it felt “kind of surreal.”
“We feel so much love and support from everyone who’s coming,” said Anne, who made her way down the aisle in a horse and carriage.
“Every time I mention the horse and carriage Stuart laughs a little bit,” she told the outlet ahead of the wedding, “and I’m like, ‘Alright, whatever. It’s my moment and I mean to have it.’”

Food Network shared a tribute to the chef after her loss.
“Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring,” a representative for the network said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss,” they added.
