Bored Panda spoke to the UK’s leading pet charity, the PDSA, about how to take care of cats, to keep them lean, healthy, and how to help fight feline obesity. After all, if you want your mischievous pet to live a long and happy life, you’ve got to lend it a helping paw.
The PDSA told us that owners who want their felines to be slimmer and healthier should always weigh out their pets' food and choose a diet that's appropriate for their life stage and activity levels. This means toning down feeding your cat anything and everything in your kitchen and even speaking with your vet or nurse about what they'd recommend for your pet.

However, while at home, you should also do your best to play lots of interactive games with your cat to help them get up and about.
"Fishing rod-style toys are great for this but encouraging jumping, running, and playing will help and some cats can even be trained to play 'fetch' and will love the time spent with you," the PDSA explained. Some of these are funny but many just show how people don´t research how to take care of cats before getting one. And yeah I know, Im fun at parties. Or I was.
Some people adopt older cats with their own quirks and personalities and misbehaviors. Not everyone gets a brand new kitten to hand raise and train not to do this stuff.... my cat was adopted older but he is well behaved he doesn't scratch furniture or anything. But he still has his quirks... he's vocal, he likes to push things off desks (mostly trinkets to play with, nothing big) he loves sitting on things you're looking at or reading, these are pretty typical cat behaviors... moreover, just like dogs, cats breeds have different traits. For example how sheepdogs need more excercise and stimulation, certain cats are high energy and others are chill.... its hard to know what yours is going to be until you have them.
Oh no, Im not talking about quirks or personalities of cats. I adopted my fur babies as full adults. What I meant is people not fixing the apparent dangers. For example the one Christmas tree with glass balls. My cats never tried to climb a christmas tree but I know better than putting glass on it, its accident waiting to happen because cats are unpredictable. Or leaving packaged food around. Before taking a bite of that bread, the cat had to chew through plastic. If she ate any, thats one visit to vet which might not end up well. I understand that one can´t be prepared for everything, but the same way you would baby prove your house, you need to be cautious when it comes to kitties. As Jackson Galaxy says "Cats are just toddlers which can reach ceilings" :D

Gentle reminder that cats kill a huge amount of birds and are susceptible to disease, getting attacked by animals, or hit by cars, so please keep them inside as best you can!
And that is the operative word there... "as best you can". Because despite being cute and cuddly, they are predators. And they are SNEAKY, too.
Pretty much negative propaganda put out by cat-haters. Cats DO hunt, but the biggest danger to ALL wildlife is pollution, pesticides, habitat loss/fragmentation, architectural wonders like mirrored buildings ... Giant windmills kill thousands of migrating birds. Cats make perfect scapegoats for ALL the damage from the "progressive" accomplishments of mankind. Cats have always been around, but the DECIMATION of birds, and ALL vanishing wildlife, has occurred since we've INDUSTRIALIZED our planet. ALSO - RODENTS destroy millions of dollars of food supplies and property, eat hatchlings, and enjoy a nice snack of bird eggs (I've personally seen this is a living museum I worked at) They eat lizards in torpor (witnessed this, too) Rodents spread hanta, bubonic plague, salmonellosis, and listeria. I'd rather have cats. PS: our cats enjoy the outdoors in a catio built just for them. Keeps everyone safer. AND T-N-R works. Should be implemented everywhere.

Way back when my sister and I were teenagers, my parents would set the breakfast table the night before so my dad wouldn’t be so rushed in the morning before work. One night he forgot something downstairs and when he looked he saw my sisters cat sitting on his breakfast plate just looking around as if this was a normal routine for him. Let’s just say my parents left the plates in the cupboard until morning from then on.
My cats can be pains in the *ss sometimes but I love them to bits... they're sleeping curled up together on my bed as I type this. Furry heart-melters!

My cat Hobby loved taunting the neighbor's dog, who really wasn't friendly with cats...He used to get close to the fence, facing it, calmly sit and meow, driving the big German Sheppard nuts and jumping up trying to come over the fence (it was high enough, fortunately). As soon as the dog calmed, he meowed again...

Cats are jerks. My friend's father found out--fortunately AFTER the cat passed--that every time he yelled at the cat (for instance, when the cat got on the counter and stole the fish for dinner) the cat went into his closet and s**t in his good shoes. He went to get them for a funeral...
Nope they are definitely jerks lol. I have a Siamese & he is hands down mayor of jerk town. U can usually tell when he catches a tude & therefore be on guard.. but not always. People having to walk around their house in fear of the cat..yup, total jerk!

I can't be mad at anything cats do, I love them so much! There's a cat at work, she's only 8 years old and was a rescue. She has a cancerous growth on one of her legs and it's getting bigger every day. The owner has decided not to go for any treatment as she would lose a leg so she will pass away soon. It's heartbreaking. The nicest cat I've ever met :(

Our cat brought an injured but still alive mouse into our house where it escaped and we weren't able to catch it afterwards. Cat didn't show any interests afterwards to catch it once it was escaped into the house. There might be some mouse sceleton somewhere now.

What's normal to some isn't normal to others. Some families find it normal to leave their shoes at the door, some pray before meals, some call their loved ones "you sorry son of a *****" before pulling them in for a hug and a kiss, some never say "I love you" but give the best presents.
