Teens Destroy 320,000,000 Years Of History In A Few Seconds, And The Way It Looks Now Infuriates Everyone
Wind, rain, and ice have been sculpting the Brimham Rocks for the last 320 million years. It has even become a National Trust landmark and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, drawing visitors to admire the outdoors of North Yorkshire, England. Earlier this month, however, some vandals have damaged it in a few mindless seconds.
“At around 8.45pm on Friday, 1 June a group of five young people were seen pushing a rock at the top of one of the crags,” North Yorkshire Police said. “This resulted in the rock falling from the crag causing damage to the crag face. The damage this has caused is irreplaceable and it is now in a potentially dangerous condition.”
“The incident has not only caused considerable damage to both the rock and the crag face, but those responsible also put themselves in danger and have created a potential hazard for other visitors to Brimham Rocks.”
Helen Clarke, from the National Trust, added: “It might have been fun for some people. Actually, it is just completely pointless and needless.”
While everyone is raging against the teens on social media, the police are asking for help. “If you have any information about the identity of those responsible please contact officers on 101, choosing option 2 and quote reference 12180097959. Alternatively, email bill.hickson@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.”

This is one of those crimes where the punishment should be hard labour, and the sort to make reparations of the sort of damage that they committed. Also, some serious public naming and shaming, and a lifetime of 10% extra on their tax bills. Yes, I'm furious, but these punks need to be made an example of.
I regularly go to Brihman Rocks and the way these selfish individuals destroyed this place that myself and my family love makes me sick
Not sure how to feel. Objectively speaking, humans destroy things made millions of years ago on a literal constant basis. You think your house by the water was made by wind and erosion? It's odd that we have cities that take over wilderness, yet people lose their s**t when a rock they think is neat gets pushed over. Removing rocks to make a aesthetically pleasing and fun golf course is kinda the same thing. My gut says "You pricks" but my brain goes "Hold on, hypocrite".
I agree and did you see the video of an orangutan trying to protect his tree he tried to move it by himself
Load More Replies...There's a problem with the way this story is presented. There's so much emphasis on the fact that they were teenagers. It could have been anyone, but it happened to be a group of teens that made a horrible choice. I'm not defending them, just defending teens as a whole group. Most of us are not like that at all, and I see so many things that make us seem dumb, irresponsible, and foolish.
Hey honesty, focus on the serious, damage that was done. I don't care who did it, find them and punish them. I', so freaking mad.
Load More Replies...I do like the way Lee and Chaz signed their work so proudly - hope it makes them easier to track down
Disgraceful. Do they have no respect? What could make a person think it was okay to do something like that. That rock formation had survived thousands of year, yet it was destroyed in mere seconds. I hope that all those selfish vandals see every post about what they did, and feel all our disappointment. All our anger. I hope they feel ashamed.
This is very sad but not all of adolescents and teenagers in this generation act like this. Only the ones fuelled by stupidity and selfishness.
Disgusting, I have been holidaying in Yorkshire since I was a babe in arms and cannot comprehend the stupidity of some people. I know that when they become adults they will be very ashamed of their actions; at least I hope they will.
this is horrible.. people destroying beautiful landmarks.. someone should really teach kids some respect for the things around them.. monuments and nature.. if you destroy those things you can never get them back..
What happened to parenting??? it seems to be an old fashioned concept.
How are they going to feel about what they've done when they reach 60?
This is heartbreaking. They robbed everybody they know and all their children's children the sight that they were allowed to enjoy. One should consider making their names public so that everybody can personally thank them, now and in future.
Well they did that already.. All media needs to do is refer to them by their last names only really.. they left their first names for all to see..
Load More Replies...It's really too bad when things like this are ruined. Similar to when stupid wars blow up historic sites. It's very sad to think that certain pieces of our history will never be known to the next generations because of mistakes/bad decisions made. Even out of pure ignorance - not knowing something would be of significance to future generations - when there's no way of knowing, and then we have no idea we've lost things either. I think that's where all the gaps in human history are from- relics, sites, etc. destroyed because nobody knew any better :(
This is really sick. Some people need to learn some lessons. :(
'But, we were just having fun'. It's like the 'can't you take a joke?' whine when someone's caught out being nasty. Their own impulses and desires are more important than anything else or anyone. I'd say lets hope they get caught and punished, but crucifixion by social media could ruin their lives.
This is what happens when young people are bored. There needs to be more teenage activity centres around. A skate boarding park, a parkour park, community centre activities for teens etc. Their brains need stimulation, they crave friendship and acceptance and adventure and if it isn't offered in the area they get up to mischief
they should get the equivalent of $250,000 usd and up to 10 years in prison as it is here in the states for destruction of government property
Got to catch the little sods first - we've very few police officers bothering with burglaries let alone an act of vandalism. Horrible though it is. Unfortunately, UK prisons are full (I expect that's a common problem) and it costs a fortune to house a prisoner (ditto). So the popular option is usually to do a suspended sentence which doesn't mean much to the vandal. Unless they've done something else and been caught before. Even then...
Load More Replies...I know that these people messed up but I find it unfair to clump together the entire generation as "idiot" and "disrespectful" because of some people's mistakes.
Stop the bleeding heart comments. You find it "unfair?" This was not a "mistake." It was willful, degenerate actions by , yes stupid and disrespectful idiots. Don't water down the seriousness of this action.,
Load More Replies...Just wait. The idiots that did this will post a video of their crime on YouTube and brag about it to everyone. They will be caught.
These are the works of people born evil. No more, no less. They are just plain evil.
Can someone can explain to that dumbass that a 'millenial' was teen in 2000. So your millenial are quite far to teen right now ...
One day way down the road, one of these idiots will brag to the wrong person and after that... Possibly... There can be justice. Complete lack of respect and just plain STUPID!
shouldn't be to hard to track down, ask in local schools i'm sure teachers will know a group of friends called Aliyah, Chez & Lee and the unique name Siona...

Vandalism is never excusable. This an attack on property that does not belong to the juvenile.
Well, it does make us think that if our generation depletes social security and pensions, as we will, these lads will be begging for bread until they die! They richly deserve it!
I think, that there should be more than every effort be used to find these sick, careless, and stupid vandals. I don’t care how young they are, they knowingly did this, and ruined a timeless piece of natural history, and beauty it took many, many lifetimes to build. The fact that they took something that benefited not only their community and history of the community, is beyond stupid. They knew what they did was wrong, and think they won’t get caught. In this, they are wrong. Kids that age can’t keep their mouth shut, and love to brag about their stupidity. I would offer a reward, for I formation leading to an arrest. Then, who knows what would be a firing punishment? What hey have done, changed history and cannot be undone.. they need to know this and never be let to forget it, ever. For the rest of their lives.
I sometimes wish we would develop like butterflies: When it's time for the transfomration into an adult, instead of becoming annoying, whiny, agressive and often unhappy and terribly insecure nightmares to live with for several years, we wold turn into larvae and after a while we emerge as adults. It would save so much grief on all sides. Sigh.
I live in the U.S. and am so appalled by this. I am so sorry this has happened to a wonderful site like this. There is so much history in Europe, Asia, India all the continents and countries there. I hope it will be possible to find these criminals due to the fact they seemed to have "scratched" their names on the rock. I like the punishments mentioned in all the comments and hope they are punished so much worse than mentioned. Good luck.
I used to think it happens only in my country. So sad to see this here as well.
Here’s a hint: I’m pretty sure it was Aliyah, Lee, and Chet. Now go find those little bastards!
Even if they are found they won't face prison or even a criminal record. Youngsters know they can do this sort of thing because of the lack of consequences for their actions.
This IS really sad and annoying but I get really pissed at people who just lump all of millennials or gen z together as mindless, stupid and naive
All the comments reflect how much it has upset everyone, some of them quite good “this is why we can have nice things..”. This was awful for the community agreed but to add objectivity this was bound to happen somewhere sometime. People are selfish and more so nowadays but if you cherish something you gotta protect it against the idiots out there sorry.
Not all teens are the same. If you just respect others, nature, have good manners and attitude etcetera: enjoy being a teenager!! Many (not all) teenagers do some pretty dumb stuff these days. (For other people, I am not saying all previous generations were saints!) But there are great teens everywhere. It is just a shame so many teenagers behave badly and portray other teens the same. But adults can all see the differences between well behaved teens and the not well-behaved teens! Enjoy your teenage years, because you are going to miss them when you are an adult!
Load More Replies...Why are we blaming teens, is it confirmed that teens did this. It can be drunk adult also or even old fellas who dont give a sh*t.
Stupid mindless punks! I hope they all get found and tossed into jail for a bit and. Then given a damn good fine. I am so sick of mindless humans destroying all things good about Earth! We do not deserve to live on this beautiful planet any longer!
THIS is the reason people are so judgmental of the younger generations. The fact that some of them are being brought up with a total lack of respect for pretty much anything AND a sense of entitlement that rivals a Kardashian is what makes people really dislike the youth of our time. Vandalizing a natural piece of art like this should be punishable by hard labor and possible prison time or at least an incredibly heft fine. But unfortunately they will probably never be found and this will not be the last time something like this happens.
When defending something you cherish, be careful not to become another version of the thing you hate. The loss is sad, the education expensive. Just remember "there is no one so bad that they cannot become a good example". If they have any contrition, perhaps they can become environmental ambassadors.
I live just miles from Brimham Rocks. It's a truly spectacular place. Such mindless thuggery is heart breaking. But the cynic in me thinks that even if caught, the most they'd get at their age is a wrap over the knuckles.
Are you actually s******g me? Pardon my language but YOU GUYS SUCK. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU THINK PUSHING A GIANT HISTORICAL ROCK WOULD END UP BEING PUBLICLY FAVORED OVER THE ORIGUNAK GD THING?
Bloody hell! That's just up the road from me, I suspect that they will be found though as there are quite a few farms in the area with CCTV
Well... obviously no one taught them better... Lack of good values is not the kids fault, you know.
Sure, kids are always innocent, aren't they? They are just mindless creatures blissfully unaware of themselves and of the world around them, unable to make decisions, pure-hearted puppets in the hands of evil puppet masters parents... or maybe, just maybe, they know exactly what they are doing: they want to look cool and impress their peers, and the most impressive the act the cooler they feel. Lots of parents do a good job, but teens can be stupid, mean and self-obsessed nonetheless. If you justify them all the time and don’t hold them responsible for their actions, they will stay stupid, mean and self-obsessed into adulthood. They knew they were making damages and they should be held responsible and punished for it.

Last summer, two teenagers from out of state came to Oregon and played with fireworks. In the woods. In the fire season. Well, guess what? They started the Eagle Creek Fire that burned fifty thousand acres of hundred-year-old trees. They destroyed the Columbia River Gorge that has been an Oregon staple since it's induction to the USA. But here's the thing: teenagers make bad decisions. They're supposed to; it's in their brain chemistry. The kids that caused the fire were given five years probation and 1,920 hours of community service with the US Forest Service to do trail cleanup, the maximum sentence. A lot of people were mad that they weren't tried as adult and imprisoned, but THEY ARE KIDS. They cannot make decisions the way that adults can. Their brains weren't fully developed, just like the kids who ruined these rocks. Yes, they should be found and arrested, but their names shouldn't be released to the public. It's our job to protect kids, even ones that make bad choices.
You just don't get it, do you? Those rocks had been standing for thousands of years, yet some careless people destroyed it in seconds. It's not about the rocks, its about the history behind them. It's about the respect that a lot of people lack.
