Educate yourselves about Type 1 diabetes!!! It's an autoimmune disease. Diet and exercise HAS nothing to do with the cause of Type 1. The body attacks and kills the beta inslet cells of the pancreas. Stop the stigma! This is just another reason why more needs to be more education. All the uneducated comments about diabetes proves it! I find the uneducated comments offensive for my 18mo old daughter who has this autoimmune disease of Type 1.

My doctor told me that Diet Coke was better for me than the Vitamin Water I had switched to. The only thing in the Coke was sodium (and my blood pressure is perfect), while the Vitamin Water has sugar and carbs and hardly any vitamins. BTW, Doc also said I should drink water instead of either of these. :)

Juvenile diabetes is usually type 1 diabetes, which is an auto-immune disease and has nothing to do with your diet. Still funny, but I find US portion sizes ridiculous anyway.

I have juvenile - or TYPE 1 as the real name is - diabetes. This type is NOT caused by eating/drinking to much sugar! That is only idiots and ignorant peole believe and say! EVERYONE can get this REGARDLESS how you live, eat or drink. It’s NOT transfered by inheritance. TYPE 2 - or adult diabetes as some people wrongly use the diagnose - is a diffrent and opposite story. Actually it’s two diffrent diseases, but with the same result: to high sugar level in the blood. Type 1 : the pancreas doesn’t produce insulin at all due to an infection for example. Type 2 : the cells has gotten resistant to reciving insulin. If you see insulin as a key you can see those cells with out locks.

As a mom of a T1D....please understand it's an autoimmune disease. Those with T1D have to monitor their carbohydrate intake. Most dairy products and meats are "free" foods meaning they have no carbs. My son loves eating steak especially venison. He eats a lot of cheese and eggs. I really wish people wouldn't automatically assume sugar intake causes diabetes.

The lectin Wheat Germ Agluttinin (WGA) mostly found in whole grains is one of the main causes of type 1. WGA basically mimics insulin causing an immune response attacking the pancreas's beta cells, it can even latch on insulin receptors telling the fat cells to store fat non-stop, WGA molecules are so small, that they can also cross the blood-brain barrier and latch on polysacharides on our nerve endings causing brain fog. Autoimmune diseases don't usually come from nothing. I believe the main causes of autoimmune diseases and allergies is the chronic consumption of lectins and endocrine disruptors in western diets.
