Heartwarming Story Of Blind Puma Rescued By Woman At Pumakawa Reserve

Life is full of dark and difficult moments, but luckily, that is not going to last forever, and the light will shine through even the densest clouds.

The Pumakawa Animal Reserve in Argentina, which is led by Kai Pacha, took in a blind puma named Estanislao. He went blind as a cub as a result of being run over by a harvester. That meant that Estanislao had no chance of survival on his own in the wild. Even as an adult, he cannot be around other mountain lions, but he has friends like his caretaker Kai, her dog Majo, and the rescued cougar cubs that come through the reserve. Kai and her co-workers do their best to give this puma the best life possible under the circumstances.

“My blindness is not dark because you are there. No one is in the black night while they have the sun of another heart by their side.” – Teachings of Estanislao Monte (the blind puma).

“Estanislao’s central nervous system has been permanently and irreversibly damaged, and he requires assistance; he cannot fend for himself,” Kai wrote on Instagram.

Unfortunately, he was injured when a harvester in a cornfield accidentally ran over him and his sibling

“In the area of General Cabrera, Córdoba, a harvester ran over two puma cubs that were in a pit, frightened,” shared Kai.

They might have been looking for prey, alternative food to what the brushland can no longer provide. “This is a reality. On the one hand, it pushes us to work out the environmental situation. And then, to work with the community in education, to agree on safeguards: Something as simple as the harvesters considering the need to warn of their presence with noise, light, or motion, so that wildlife can move back to the sides,” told Kai to Lanacion.

A family who witnessed what happened saw the mother take one of the cubs but not the other. They decided to give first aid to the abandoned cub, Estanislao

As Estanislao’s blindness was irreversible, he would not have been able to survive in the wild

“Estanislao could not survive in nature, so our challenge is to find a way for him to live comfortably. To find the techniques and strategies for his needs,” shared Kai on Instagram.

After his wounds healed, the family brought him to Pumakawa where he was taken care of by Kai Pacha and her dog Mojo

Over time, they developed a beautiful bond based on trust, and Estanislao now lives a happy and fulfilling life, despite his blindness

Kai’s house is made of mud, and the heat from a salamander stove blends with the scent of burning palo santo in the air. It is situated within the two hectares now occupied by the reserve premises, but is set apart from the rest; it is separated from the first-aid room, the tiny home where volunteers sleep, the cafeteria, the handicraft store, the tree nursery, and the hall where the animal enclosures are.

Estanislao’s story is a testament to the human spirit’s kindness and compassion, as well as the profound bond that can form between humans and animals

I am a Brazilian digital artist who loves transforming imagination into hyper-real visuals. I work with artificial intelligence and image editing to create what I always wondered as a child: how would our favorite characters look in real life? Over time, many of my artworks have gone viral and were featured in international publications. I have recreated realistic versions of cartoon characters such as Disney and The Simpsons, imagined how celebrities who died young would look today, and even gave modern faces to historical figures like Mona Lisa or Shakespeare. Beyond entertainment, I created Para Não Esquecer, a social project that revisits memorable criminal cases in Brazil. My goal is to honor victims, keep memory alive and remind society that justice and empathy matter. I also write for Bored Panda, where I create articles featuring artists, photographers, rescue stories and feel-good moments from around the world. My work aims to highlight creativity, kindness and emotional storytelling. In everything I do, my purpose is the same: to touch hearts, evoke emotion and make people feel something real.

Hello Pandas! My name is Ieva, though it's often mistaken for the word 'Leva,' and in Lithuanian, it means 'loser' (insert the pain emoji). While I don't take offense if you accidentally call me a loser, I thought I'd share something interesting with you, which I also do professionally at work.Anywayyy, my favorite part here is introducing you to creative people who deserve just as much recognition as famous celebrities. Besides that, I also enjoy memes and funny, lighthearted posts, and occasionally, I find myself drawn to a bit of internet drama.

I live near Villa Rumipal, where the reserve is located. The work this woman does is incredible. Not only does she take care of pumas and other species that have been displaced from their habitat or injured, but she also raises awareness about the importance of preserving native habitats and native forests, since due to heavy deforestation (by planting crops, especially soya), many animals have lost their homes and food sources, and are forced to look for food inside local farms, so they are persecuted and killed. I wish there were more people like Kai.

I *hate* the way people blame animals when *we* are the ones who invaded/destroyed *their* habitats. Sounds like Kai is a hero!
