Green as major design and shading element in Spain
meanwhile in the UK if a street has trees, people complain and want them cut down because "there's too much shade on my house" B***H WE GET 40C SUMMERS NOW YOU'LL BE BEGGING FOR SHADE (thankfully I have a lovely tree right outside my house and i swear its staying there forever)
Stunning, but who shall be the first to clear the morning spider webs? Not me! 😅
As much as I like the strung umbrellas shading paths and lanes, I find this natural shading so much prettier.

Stairway to heaven
This is in the Japanese gardens in Portland Oregon. It's an amazing place
This is so whimsical I want to just walk up the steps and float away
Emma, a garden blogger and expert in helping busy people transform suburban areas into homesteads, spoke with Bored Panda, answering a few of our questions. For those of you who don't know, Emma actually mostly focuses on and teaches individuals how to grow organic fruit, herbs, and vegetables in their own backyards without needing acres of property or spending hours in the garden.
I would have so much fun having lunch with my friend there! it would be such a cute spot for a date or something too
How much does the weekly gardener charge to weed and trim everything to keep it looking like that?
Look at all the wonderful hiding places! I could have some serious fun out here, and the soft can-openers would never know. I mean, I could take some lovely naps here. Naps, yeah. Just naps.

I love Japanese gardens, but this one is overdone. It's a cliche, not one of the great gardens.
When asked about creating a serene outdoor space, Emma suggested that one should "Consider these key elements:
1. Balance: Mix plant types, textures, and colors.
2. Focal points: Add eye-catching features like water elements or sculptures.
3. Movement: Use flowing water or swaying plants for a lively vibe.
4. Accessibility: Make it inviting with clear pathways and seating areas."

Just gotta keep an eye on any stray roots over time. Other than that, absolutely beautiful !
I do like this, but I'm nervous about trees growing so close to a building due to their roots systems that can, and do, break through foundations. Just speaking from experience.
Why should they cut it down? The tree was there first.

Lemon tree very pretty and the Lemon flower is sweet, but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat...
The blogger also shared her favorite projects, including an urban rooftop garden filled with native plants, seating, and a small water feature, and a residential garden with winding paths, bridges, and hidden spots for exploration. She incorporates biodynamic gardening and permaculture principles to help people raise their own food in their very own yards.

This is so peaceful and spaced for privacy. However, folks sitting at that table under the tree may get more than they bargained for with birds overhead.
With over 15 years of gardening experience in multiple climates and soil types, Emma has a Permaculture Design Certificate and enjoys experimenting in her garden alongside more than 4,000 other gardeners and homesteaders. She contributed to the Mother Earth News Organic Gardening blog and is obsessed with composting.

It’s beautiful but all I can think about is the time I was swimming in our pool and got a cramp in my foot. Luckily j in was able to quickly get to the steps and lay on them. For anyone who has never experienced a cramp swimming it courses throughout the entire body, quite literally mg body had completely seized in an agonizing paroxysm. It took several minutes for it to pass. I very nearly drowned. Having always been such a strong swimmer I had assumed, ( wrongfully of course), that I would be able to push through a cramp.
When someone comes out the your house to give you ideas for a hot tub.

Stunning!!! So lovely! I struggle to keep my succulents going, and they're easy! Can't imagine all the effort put into this.
I think the "succulents are easy" is a myth, I've never been able to keep one!

She also shared with us that outside of writing on her blog, recording podcasts, and working her day job, she can be found "snuggling with her dogs, dabbling in sewing, knitting, and crocheting, as well as binge-watching Supernatural."
Emma’s mission is to show people how to homestead in the suburbs and grow more organic food for less work, even with a busy work schedule during the week.

Parts of it are stunning. Other, urban parts, incredibly depressingly ugly. Lived there for 6 years and the landscape contrasts always amazed me

That looks like bougainvillea and while I love bougainvillea it's a mess to clean, you have to keep it in check or it will take over, and it's got wicked thorns that irritate when they scratch you.

Those are pretty young cypress trees. When they get bigger it will be a shaded drive to the castle.
I'm beleav'n this location was in a movie. Sure do recall this or similar.

Knowing how things go I'd walk down there first thing in the morning and walk it to a cobweb at every 'portal.' Ending up waving my arms like a lunatic windmill to avoid any more as I walked any further

I imagine it would be sealed with some sort of waterproof varnish or stain. Or it could be teak, which does well in water. That’s why it’s used in all kinds of bath furniture- stools, mats, etc.

The Kaufmann House near Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Frank Lloyd Wright was an odd, controlling man, but he was an expert at marrying design and nature. I've been here - this is a beautiful site.
Except that all of his buildings leak when it rains...

A tiny, shallow, private pool in a lovely backyard? Yes, please ❤ I could picture myself just hanging out at the pool on a warm day.
OK, I'm seriously in love with this pool. Totally private. Just hang out naked and de-stress from your day.

Here's a better image, you can see that the hole is actually quite wide enough for the tree to grow. And having seen these in person (pics not mine though) I can also confirm this. :) treehugger...e5055c.png
I feel like they're all in a time out, with a tree.
That's what I would have, if I had a swimming pool...but I think the frogs would steal it, have 100s here.

Ahhh! Roses! I have scars from one a previous homeowner panted near the front door. Those things can be evil. (The flowers are gorgeous, though.)
A nearby neighbor of mine has a front garden that is similar to this, with a gently curving brick walk that really looks inviting.
Simple, with such peaceful surroundings. I can almost hear the birdsong.

Modern design!
I like this, except for the grass. It's going to be annoying to maintain. It should be a low-profile ground cover - preferably something like thyme, where it smells good when it gets stepped on.
I dunno, I don't think it would be that hard to maintain four small circles of grass.

I love this idea. My only critique would be to put the parking on the outside of the circles and use the center as a communal vegetable garden or micro park.
Yeah I feel like there is not many parking spaces either. If each house has one car would they even all fit in the middle?
Load More Replies...It's pretty and all but the houses are pressed up against the fences on either side of it. Leaves no room but at the end. Wouldn't be bad if it had fewer houses and turn them facing the circle.

How do you clean the outside of the glass? How do you escort the goslings out in the spring? My mother used to teach at a school with a courtyard. Geese would nest there and they and their goslings would be shepherded down the hall and out the front door when they were ready to depart.
A hospice local to us has this; birds come in and it's beautiful!
It's a finger print. A green finger print! 😁

While I enjoy letting native plants grow wild in my back yard, I admire the planned and kept gardens and landscapes very much. There are some beautiful ones here. I just can't imagine the maintenance!
These are all beautiful. That said, even though most seem to be public or commercial places, it's rare to see one a physically handicapped person could enjoy. Come on, designers! Those of us w/mobility troubles would like to visit too! Adding access for the less-than-able doesn't have to compromise your style. Give us at least handrails for all those stairs, space them out a little here & there. Leave enough room for a wheelchair to reach a table. Add benches on walking sections. Don't use pebbles on walkways. Most of us don't need much. I walk w/a cane & in this list I saw maybe 2 places I could manage. Maybe.
This may surprise some, but the pond in the Cleveland Botanical Garden is one of my favorites. I've done my share of traveling, Hangzhou, Hue, Kyoto, Beijing, and so forth, and I think that little pond is a masterpiece.
