My father purchased an old building, it turned out to be the first grocery store in our region. Families would travel all day by horse and buggy, stay the night in the boarding rooms on the third floor and then drive home. The second floor was the owner's home. Sadly, there wasn't much of the store left aside from two really nice display shelves and an enormous rope operated lift (8ftx6ft) that went to storage on the second and third floor.

Please don't repeat media lies about Chicago. Cities like Rochester, NY and St. Louis, MO, have far more crime and gun violence, but Conservatives have been making Chicago out to be some urban hellscape since the early 2000s because 1) it's where Obama is from, and 2) black people. None of that is true. All large metropolitan areas have problems, because that is just what happens when you pack a lot of people and businesses into expensive close quarters, but no one is running around with handguns in the streets. Stop it.

Yeah, you didn't just throw one of these lingerie dresses in the wash! The skirts often had a lining or even a rope-like fringe layer underneath, where they dragged, so those pieces could be removed and washed. Date is wrong, it's from 1939. She was 3 years old & from Shetland where one of the primary incomes was from knitting so they taught it from as early as possible and even in school. She's using a knitting belt that assists her. They would have considered themselves to be girls. I'll never understand why it is demeaning to be called a girl. And why shouldn't we call an actress an actress rather than an actor? Is actress a pejorative term? Are words that indicate whether one is female pejorative? If so - why is being a girl or a woman seen as being negative? I don't understand it. In Ireland all ages of females are often referred to as girls . . . . . and all ages of men are referred to as boys. Wassaproblem with that?
