Artist From Poland Nostalgic For 19th Century Warsaw Recreates It In Watercolour

Warsaw, the capital of Poland, has had a very difficult history; almost totally destroyed during World War II, rebuilt under communism, and currently deformed and sealed by the overuse of billboards, the city’s story can be read in its architecture.

Tytus Brzozowski – an architect and artist from Poland – uses elements from the past and present to recreate and reimagine Warsaw’s 19th century charm. In his paintings we find narrow, enchanting streets, elegant townhouses and soaring towers. To reduce the shadows of these tight alleys, his buildings rest on towering stilts, creating spaces underneath for pedestrians to stroll. There is just one question: How do you get inside?

Breathtaking! It's so incredible, I'm glad to know him now! And it's quite sad that some images doesn't have as much resolution/quality as the others (or is it my computer? I guess not); but it doesn't stop it from being amazing.

Huh? 19th Century? The streetcars) look exactly like ones I was using in 20th Century, people are wearing modern clothing... the author got confused. I recognize many real buildings and landmarks. Quite lovely work.

Oh, my, these are fantastic! I was so absorbed looking at the pictures, I felt as if I were actually there. I love your style of painting, your use of color, your wonderful composition. And I especially like all the trolleys rolling through the buildings. Absolutely delightful. I'd love to visit your Warsaw! Thank you for posting there.
