Woman On Twitter Educates People On Getting Bitten By These 20 Different Animals
Even wondered what it’s like getting bitten by an animal? As you can imagine, there are animals that bite hard to defend themselves or as a form of an attack. However, not all animals are capable of biting with force, and can end up giving more of a suckle than a bite. And then there’s the question of whether they were trying to bite you with malicious intent.
Anywho, Jelena Woehr recently went to Twitter to answer this very question: what’s it like being bitten by various animals?
One thread later, we have a list of 20 animals and tweet-long reviews with ratings detailing the various bites found in the animal kingdom.
Bored Panda invites you to check out Jelena’s reviews of bites in the list below. And while you’re down there, why not vote on the ones you liked the most, and leave us a comment with your own animal bite reviews in the comment section!

I had one for 19 years. She hated being handled but only ever "Bit" me when she mistook my fingernails as a raisin. More of a tooth graze than a bite. RIP Tilly 💜
My chinchilla was the sweetness thing... with the original name Chila. 😂
I chinchilla sat for my sister yrs ago when she went out of town and I loved them! And to watch them roll in their dust bowls 😍❤
Load More Replies...I have five rats and they are wonderful animals. You do have to have at least two, though, because they are such social animals and need a cuddle buddy. Besides, two times the rats is two times the cuteness, right?
Load More Replies...Rat bites are variable. I have very friendly ones who occasionally nibble out of curiosity, but I also had a foster who bit be so hard I had to go to the ER.
Try petting a cat and then offering it to the rat. Instant success!
Little did we know... Rare side effect of an adult tetanus shot is mild hallucinations. Also rats will bite or try to remove any foreign coverings such as dressings and band aids....
I LOVED my pet rat JeanPaul, who was my little buddy when I was in art school in the 80's. Unfortunately, the dean of the school was not a fan, I was officially reprimanded for carrying him ( in my sweater) in life drawing class. One of the women in the class FREAKED out when she saw JP peek out of my collar during class...so... sorry SMFA, it was my pet rat that got animals banned from school property.
xD I have always wanted one, but seing its teeth, nvm...
Load More Replies...We have a pet hedgehog... it bit my wife and drew blood. It wasn't that bad of a bite, though, all things considered, and this is up there with the fingernail ripper? Hilarious posts though, I truly meant no harm, just confused on the rating.
A bite to the nipple with a refusal to release makes for and interesting dance accompanied by foul language. The only way to end this bite is to fill the sink with water and submerge both breast and beast until its desire to survive takes hold.
So, Jelena Woehr (pronounced yell in a war), a writer, editor, creative, educator, and businesswoman from Los Angeles, went to Twitter with a thread—a thread that reviews animal bites.
In particular, these are somewhat detailed accounts of how these various animals bite, and how it feels.
Now, we’re not sure whether the author of these tweets has actually done the empirical part of this experiment before writing up the reviews, but whatever the case may be, don’t try this at home!
One of these dogs killed my Maltese by shaking him by the neck. I blamed the owner. He was investigated and they found all kinds of animals that were being abused in his home. There was an alligator in his basement. I adopted the Akita instead of them killing it. He was a good dog. It took a lot to teach him. Had him for two years before he passed away of cancer.
My neighbor had an Akita, a female, and she was huge! She'd break out of his yard while he was at work and spend the day at my house. I loved that dog.
Wow, what gorgeous markings, like his brown bits are outlined in black!
Ok so fairys aren’t real but a creature with a lot of tentacles more than one heart and a beak as a mouth that can blind you with ink is? Naw y’all trippin 0-0
Looks like parrot beak for exactly same reason. Perfect shape to crack tough nuts/shells.
Also, every single one of those cute suckers on its ten legs can tear your skin off.
Sorry, but giant squid freak me out!! I do, however, love to eat his MUCH smaller cousin...delicious! I don't eat the tentacles, though. They're my brother's favorite...so it's a win-win!!
Did you let this one bite you too for the sake of this article? I don't think I'd let that one near me 😊
These are beautiful, awesome, vicious creatures. Best viewed through a magnifying device, preferably at least 1000 ft away. They have amazing hearing - if you try to surprise one at night it will kick you off the mountain and laugh at your destruction.
The list includes a number of domesticated and wild animals: everything from goats to snakes to birds to dogs to different kinds of rodents.
Each review includes a general overview of the bite, its qualities and character, the feeling and other related details.
The reviews also include a rating on a 5-point scale with 0 being a bad and 5—a good rating. In some cases, the “experience” breaks the scale, but in most it stays within the confines of the numeric continuum.
my dad is scared of horses because when he was five or six he saw a lady get bitten really hard by a horse.
It took me years to get over my fear of horses after being bitten on the shoulder by an albino horse when I was about 9. My whole shoulder was black. I managed to stop being scared of horses after many years of riding lessons, but I am still very averse to all albino animals.
Load More Replies...One unsavoury individual took a bite out of my uncle’s brand new truck. The insurance company did not believe him until the owner of the horse told them that it was true. And Bella the horse had so many ways of inflicting pain whilst she was being groomed. I’ve got the broken toes, bite mark on bum, and the psychological trauma of being squashed against a wall to mention just a few. I miss her though.
Speaking of horses I'm getting my own horse soon! Yay! I'm going to learn how to jump a horse
I hate you! Which when translated reads as I’m so jealous of you.
Load More Replies...I lost a thumbnail to a horse. I was at a big trail ride with literally hundreds of other people and horses. I settling the 2 I had brought in their stalls for the night and noticed someone else's horse had an empty water bucket. I reached into the stall to grab the bucket so I could go fill it for him. Bugger pinned his ears, snaked his neck and bit the sh*t out of me. Thanks buddy. I guess you enjoy being thirsty. 🙄
I can confirm. I've had little babies nibble/steal clothing but an angry mom will gladly take a chunk out of your arm for you 0-0
Unless it is a baby goat, then it is pretty painful since they have sharp teeth. I speak from experience here.
don't kiss boy goats on the face. They sometimes spray themselves when they are looking for action
The worst thing a goat did to me was butt me! I was airborne...it was hilarious! Her name was Pam, she was my neighbor's pet goat, I truly thought we were friends until she sent me flying through the air!!
sorry, i raise goats, they easily draw blood, but not often!
Like cows, no upper incisors, just a hard palate. I wonder if goat tongues are as sandy as cows? More slobber than any pain.
Vomiting is not always a prelude to mating. It means they care for you and love you it was more of an apology. And I'd give a cockatoo bite of 5/5 they are ruthless. Any parrot is. If only I could show you my scars, but I wouldn't give up my feather babies for the world, and usually if they bite you've already been warned and didn't listen or they were startled or my fave bite of all, they are falling and try to use their beak to save themselves and don't mean it, those are the worst because it's panic and most likely the deepest of all bites and you can't get mad because it's not their fault.
Not fun if they bite your face. Very scary when they sink their beak into your nose, scream, and flap wings about your ears at the same time. At least the scarring fades after a couple of years.
According to Jelena, among the best bites are those by the parrotlet, the African pygmy hedgehog, the chinchilla, and, of course, the giant squid, which got a million-point rating.
But, there are also bad bites, mostly ones that are anything but pleasant: those by the vicuña (South American camelids reminiscent of llamas), the domestic cat, the black bear hamster, and the Norwegian rat. The vicuña, though cute, got a -5 rating, so there’s that.
I got bit from my friend's pet ferret on my finger, it just has a cut
As a a person with three ferrets, two of which spend every morning biting me in various places until I wake up. I think its safe to call b.s. on this review, ferrets are rather skilled biters and its one of the few times they actually stick around long enough to finish what they started. A ferret bite is more like being clamped on by a fanged clothes pin, its hurts, but it never draws blood and they will hang on until you remove them. Then they look at you with the most adorable face god (or the other guy, honestly we arent sure) ever created and you kiss the ferret on the head and they bite you again.
They most definitely do draw blood. I had one try to attack my cat in the garden one day, in a split second decision I stupidly grabbed its tail before it could get to my kitty. It was very displeased and got in some very deep bites before I was able to shake it off. House looked like there'd been a massacre and it 3 adults to catch it! Just so you know, it had escaped from a neighbour's place and was returned unharmed.
Load More Replies...My ferret wasn't named Nibbles Lucifert Theevil (the evil) for nothing. He was playful and funny. I miss him
They are the funniest, sweetest animals ! They are more playful and hilarious than kittens . Mine bites women more gently , but even when biting men it isn't bad
I owned a total of 6 ferrets, only one of them was a biter. However she would not let go once she got you. Very strong jaw! I had to slide a finger horizontally behind her "fangs" to force her mouth open to make her let go of her bite. All my other ferrets never ever bit me, not once.
I had a ferret and it liked to lick at your arm after u showered. The problem was it latched on with its teeth and wouldn't let go.Very painful getting it to release.
I was holding an older ferret in a pet store once (I've worked in the veterinary field for years and I love all animals just FYI) and I guess he just wasn't in the mood and he bit down through my thumb nail... THROUGH it... my friend had to help me pry his mouth off of me lol As I mentioned earlier I love all animals... but I can't help but be just a little bit apprehensive when holding ferrets now. Grandpa ferret scarred me both physically and mentally lol
heard a story of someone's grandmother saying look, how cute, it's licking my arm, only to have the ferret a second later hanging on to her by its teeth as she waved her arm around yelling with surprise. Ferret did not go flying, as far as i know.
Nope, nope, nope. Just a pet weasel. Awful killers of birds, especially chickens.
Nope, nope, NOPE!! I am terrified of snakes! But, then again, I do live where there is a ridiculous amount of poisonous snakes...NOPE!!
I’ve never been bitten by a snake, even though I keep a pet corn snake. He is super friendly, and honestly I think he would only bite someone of that person hurt him.
I've been bitten once by almost every snake I've owned. Bite ratings based on pain and amount of blood: 13.5 ft red tailed boa - kinda painful, def worst bite. Blood was shooting out of my arm. 8.5 ft jungle carpet python - little bit of a pinch, but that was it. Steady stream of blood. My ball pythons (clumping them together, only 1 bit me, though the other tried) - No pain, just a lot of blood. None of the bites were their fault. Not at all. Ut was my negligence that confused them and they struck. They're all very good boys. Very cuddly! Snakes are amazing pets🖤🐍🐍🐍🖤
I’ve only ever seen one king snake, and boy-howdy was it beautiful.
Yeah...not when they clamp down. Two of my cats got into a fight learly one morning ast year and my groggy ass tried to separate them. Spider, not realizing he grabbed my hand, sank his teeth in. Aside from the extremely deep gashes that took close to a month to completely heal, he also fractured a bone near my wrist. As soon as he realized he had me, he let go and spent the rest of the day following me around. He was very, very sorry.
Aww reminds me of my cat years ago when he was little! He was the sweetest boy never bite or scratch but one day while he was falling he grabbed from my leg and gave me a huge deep scratch that made me scream in pain! He was so scared he ran away and then came back looking so worried with his big eyes that i couldn't be mad at him at all😥😥 i really miss him
Load More Replies...Always, always, always go to the hospital if a cat bite breaks the skin. Most likely you'll need I.V. antibiotics & possibly surgery depending on how deep the bite is. Also, if you're scratched & bleeding you should bleed it if you can, wash w/warm water & soap, then apply neosporin.
Jepp - got bitten by my own cat end of last year and ended up spending 10 days in a hospital including an operation and weeks of antibiotics...cat bites are not fun!!
Load More Replies...I tried to intervene when a friends cat was trying to kill the neighbours dog. Kitty (yes, she really was called Kitty) sank her teeth and claws into my right arm as I bent down to pick her up. About 10 minutes later the pain was incredible and my arm ballooned. Two weeks of antibiotics.
Trying to ki-- how small that dog was? Was it a chihuahua?
Load More Replies...Seriously, I'm pretty much immune to cat bites. They don't bother me at all lol
I seriously doubt that. They must have not been very hard. My cat will bite me like a puppy and biting someone who's playing with it. He knows not to break my skin and I always keep his claws clipped.
Load More Replies...My cat bit me like 3 minutes ago...I was disturbing her, so she scolded me like a kitten. However, the bite hurt, so I let her no that it was too much (i said ow, and put my finger between her molars rather than fangs, fyi, they hate that, but it does no harm, and you will not get a serious bite)
Those little goobers have insanely LONG teeth!!! My precious rodent bit clear through my fingernail. Holy crap that hurt. But I loved him sooooooo much!!! He was aptly named... Nipper :D
My dwarf hamster loves nibbling my fingers. Sometimes she hangs onto my finger and I have trouble getting her to let go. Apparently my fingers are tasty to hamsters.
I was bit by my cousins hamster when I was about 4. Instant blood of my hand, but who hands a scared hamster to an excited 4 year old? LOL, I'm still scared of them.
When I worked at Petco the robos were the meanest of the small animals. I loved the teddy bear hamsters though.
He's all like "Look, I'm just trying to eat my pretzel in peace here."
Then whatever you do, don't ever look up Cymothoa exigua.
Load More Replies...I had a pair of Red Oscars both over 12 inches long. I could scratch them behind their gill plates and they seemed to like it. One day I was changing out their filter and the Male bit the heck out of one of my knuckles. Drew blood!!! I go, WTH!!!! Found out they were in pre-spawn and protecting their soon to be nest. Amazing thing to watch 2 Oscars in Pre-Spawn, Spawn then taking care of the fry. Well worth having in an aquarium if it is legal in your state. Get a BIG aquarium!!! They have a tendency to jump too so a weighted Hood is suggested.
They will get as big as dinner plates if they're in a big enough aquarium
Weather loaches quickly learn they can be hand fed and have the tickliest bites ever.
Look up the sea wolf/ wolffish/ wolf eel (AKA devil fish) --- in Swedish it's "stone biter"... specialized in cracking rockhard shellfish.
His skin is sheeding i dont think im spelling this correctly
Load More Replies...Aw I get bit by wild ones all the time! It’s not that painful by the way but they will hold on for a while
When I caught wild ones, I got em to bite my hands/fingers and/or the tip of my nose and took pics. 😆
Load More Replies...LoL! Feeding them mealworms by hand. Poor gecko jumps higher than the person when he gets a finger.
It’s fun feeding em by hand........I love my 3 leopard geckos!
Load More Replies...If you hand feed em, it’s possible you might get bitten if he doesn’t have a good ‘aim’ but it doesn’t hurt.
Load More Replies...If you lightly tap its mouth, it’ll lick you n it tickles when you let it crawl on your face! 😂
Load More Replies...I love leopard geckos. They're just so cute. Tokay geckos have a hard bite though
My leo bit me a few times but it never actually hurt. Once I believe he tried to actually consume my finger, as he lunged and got the entire tip of my finger in his mouth, then held on for a brief moment as I lifted my hand back out. He’s much more friendly now and when he doesn’t want to be held, he simply walks away.
Though the thread received a modest amount of attention from the internet, just a bit over 13,000 likes with nearly 4,500 retweets, many were still engaged sharing their own thoughts on bites.
The commenters effectively said to avoid bites from animals like golden Syrian hamsters, geese, and Maine coons.
However, not all are bad. Some vouched for pigeons, gerbils, grasshoppers, and many other very tame animals as having either ineffective and/or amusing bites.
When did the golden hamster become black bear hamster? Anyway, she should test the other colors. Spot the dangerous one: spotted-sy...a74459.jpg
Oh yes these are no joke. I got bit one time .... ONE by one of these terrors. They bite and grind. Then they'll release and if you're not quick enough will RE latch and grind some more and will NOT get off.
At Petco we had a sick parakeet and we had to syringe feed him. The poor baby was so weak I'd let him note me so I could get his food into him. He fought eating everytime.
Wait until you lean down to snuggle it and it gets you on the nose! NOTHING could be more painful!!
ok, these hurt. I've seen a juvenile rip of half a finger and a big chunk of hand...
These guys can do *serious* damage if they put their minds to it. My guy (before I had him) bit the girl at the rescue on the cheek and took out a full thickness triangular flap that needed reconstructive surgery. He was under 2 feet long at the time. He grew to over 5 and a half feet (luckily no more biting)!
It's the claws & whip-like slashing tail you have to be wary of, mouth mostly fine.
I miss working with bisons. In once of my internships as caregiver I worked with a group of European bisons. The females were quite nervous around us but the big male was the sweetest guy ever. He would come to the fence all the time so we could pet him. We wouldn’t do in front of the visitors of course (you don’t want them to try with dangerous animals) but it was lovely. Such a gentle giant.
My friend used to keep bison. Very smelly and amazing derp faces. 100/10
4/5 for horn experience, though. It takes real skill to get hit with those horns, but you're likely to get some serious damage under that bruise.
When I was a kid we used to go to a zoo that had bison . They were in this small enclosure that was fenced in with regular 10 ft high chain link fence . There were huge dents in the fence and I never knew why... until one time we went. I was looking at the bison and I started doing the nanny boo boo dance thing and this huge frickin bison charge at me full speed . Scared the crap out of me , but was also hilarious
Bison rarely bite. Their preferred method of discipline is to knock you 20 to 50 feet from the initial point of contact with their horns. (See: de-pants lady in Custer State Park, SD)
If it wasn't tame I'd stay away and watch its magnificence from a distance
Sarasota, Florida, has feral Nanday Parakeets. (Parakeets are parrots with long tails.)

I got bit by a water snake when I was 11 after I tried to pick it up to move it out of the road. I couldn’t pull back because I’d pull out the teeth, so I just had to stand there and let it bite me. Ungrateful little b*st*rd shat all over me too. 1/5 stars, this snake is rude and ungrateful to people saving their life.
Got back to its den and regaled its snake friends with tales of “Big Hands”
Load More Replies...I still have a scar from being bitten by an angry rabbit at about age 12. Do not recommend.
I got bitten by a seagull once. Their beaks are pretty sharp!
Load More Replies...I would love to do an Australian equivalent ...the problem being ....the first animal that bites you will probably kill you.
Except, apparently, the building-sized spiders
Load More Replies...The worst animals that I have seen for the bite are long tail macaques (macaques in general but this ones were feisty). Not only they have jaws strong enough to break Kongs (that survive pitbulls) (with the help of their hands of course). They can bite through Kevlar! The catching gloves that we had were made out of that material and they could still hurt you through it. (We only used them if the animals were in danger or very sick and needed to be taken quickly, if not we used transport cages of course)
