50 Times People Mastered The Art Of Knitting And Shared Their Creations Online
With sheer horror I remember the moment we had to make our own knit “couture” in home ec class. It could be anything, from a tote bag to a pair of socks, or a scarf, or a tiny doll... the list goes on. I thought that a knitted bow tie for Father’s Day was a great idea, but expectation vs reality hit and the final result looked like a pastel wool blob asking to be tacitly discarded.
That’s when I came to the conclusion that not everyone is born a knitter, and our grandmas are the blessed souls. But some people are willing to enter the knitting game, or should I call it a league, and make needlework great again.
And oh boy, they do. Thanks to the r/Knitting subreddit, which is all about “warm, fuzzy, sometimes tangled” stuff, people from all walks of life can now proudly show their mad knitting skills, and some of it is surely leaving everyone in awe, from handmade ponchos to socks and sweaters that put all the mass-produced knitwear to shame.

Those are some really astonishing knitting projects there. Every time l see a lovely sweater or dress l feel the urge to knit the respective sweater or dress. But then l take a look at all the UFOs (unfinished objects) in my room and think to myself: well, finish them first before you start a new one! But on the other hand: give me those patterns so that l can start a new knitting project and go shopping for some fancy yarns! I don’t care if those UFOs a piling up in my room. Anyone else with the same kind of ‘addiction’?

My daughter taught herself to knit last year from watching YouTube tutorials. She made a king size blanket for me and my husbands xmas present as her first project. It's beautiful warm and heavy. She's made two more so far.

I have just started teaching myself to knit. So far, I've only been able to learn the basic knit stitch, casting on and casting off. This means that all I've managed to make are 2 really rubbish looking scarves and some sample squares. My goal is to knit a blanket. I've tried crochet, but found it way too fiddly and frustrating so I've given up on that for now!!
