Thinking im the jerk for causing marital strife between my bosses. I was hired as an office manager for a dog kennel. ( no worries, it was NOT a puppy mill, these dogs were taken care of) Right away I could tell that this was going to be a learn as I go situation, as there was no training on programs or paperwork... Fine... 1 week in we had an ice storm.. I was the only employee that could make it in. I was told to help in the kennels with cleaning and feeding... Fine.. I have dogs, how hard can it be... Well according to the male boss.. Im an idiot and didnt do the things correctly according to USDA and State protocol...Well... thats not my job, and I was never trained or told how to properly care for the kennels. After his yelling at me about how i could get them shut down and an idiot could do this job, ( red flag #1) I sucked it up, as it was stressful as it was 12 degrees outside, dogs were upset, no one else but myself showed up.. Fast forward a couple of days, and Im figuring out the computer program and boss comes in at 9 am and cracks open a beer. Sits down to talk to me about how my attitude really sucks, and that if I want to keep my job I better get with it and figure out these programs. ( red flag 2) I talk with my husband, do i need THIS job.. not really.. its just convenient being 6 miles away, I can run home and check on my own farm during lunch. ect. One of the other employees and myself became fast friends, and were talking and come to find out, she hadnt been paid in over a month...( red flag 3) My own paychecks were a day late in coming, but not a big deal, as I still got paid. I received my next to last paycheck and deposited it, and went on about my life, working, doing the paperwork ect, and BAM, my paycheck bounced, sending me into overdraft. I WAS LIVID. I called the boss lady and told her what happened, and could her husband meet me at the bank to get me my money and the fees I had incurred for being overdrafted... No. she doesnt want to involve him. ( red flag #4) She would make it right the next day.. Ok. when? no answer. I called other employees to see if they had the same issue.. No just me.. Boss lady called me back yelling at me for asking around to the other employees and embarassing her. ( uhm dont bounce payroll checks) My husband drove to my job at 7am the next day demanding my money. Boss man was not there so she scrambled to get my money together. I drove 35 miles away to the bank to cash it to make sure it cleared. I was told I wasnt needed that Friday and to come back Monday. Ok.. I came back Monday and my final check was waiting on me by boss man. I asked him if I was being fired due to the fact that I 1. had my husband collect my paycheck due to the check bouncing, or 2. I embarassed her by asking others if their checks bounced also. He had no idea what I was talking about. He was told that I quit. ( no, but i did demand to be paid in cash from then on) I informed him, and showed him that my paycheck indeed bounced, and informed him that another employee has only received 1 check since January. Come to find out through the gossip grapevine, they are on the verge of bankruptcy, he had no idea how bad it was, and they fired everyone that worked there. Part of me feels bad for embarassing them by calling them out for their money issues, but the other part of me feels even worse as I know hes an aggressive man, and may take it out on her for lying to him..and yet another part of me feels that karma has come to roost on both of them

She wrote you a rubber check which in turn blew the lid off of whatever swindling she was trying to do. Regardless of whatever issues it causes between her and her husband, youre not the jerk.
