All The Things You Could Have Done With The 9 Days, 2 Hours Extra Free Time You’ve Had In 2020
On average, Brits have saved an hour a day by not commuting due to Covid-19, totalling an extra 9 days and 2 hours of free time over a year, a new study from online print manufacturer, instantprint, reveals. Some (15%) have got even more time back as they admitted to working fewer hours from home too.
The research also looked at how the nation has been spending the extra free time they’ve had since March. Reading (26%), binging on Netflix (26%) and listening to music (22%) came out on top, while catching up on sleep (21%), household chores (21%), and cooking (20%) were also favourite pastimes.
Just 3% of UK adults felt they have wasted the extra time they’ve had since they stopped commuting.
But, what exactly could be done with those extra 9 days and 2 hours of ‘free time’? Well, with the average time taken to run a marathon standing at 4 hours 21 minutes, you could squeeze in a total of 50.1 marathons in place of the time spent commuting. For those who prefer to showcase their skills in the kitchen, 143.5 loaves of the lockdown staple, banana bread, could have been baked over the course of the year.
•Keen crafters could have knitted 10.9 jumpers
•Avid readers could have read The Hobbit 34 times
•145.3 games of the family-favourite, Monopoly, could have been played
•Listened to every Beatles song 6 times
As Netflix binging has been such a popular pastime, instantprint also calculated which TV and film favourites could have been watched in the extra 9 days of free time. All nine Star Wars films could have be watched 16.4 times over the year, all six Die Hard films in the franchise viewed 21.37 times, and all 24 Marvel movies watched 4.26 times in total.
Boasting 236 episodes, pop culture classic, Friends could also have be viewed 1.8 times; the whole of Schitt’s Creek 7.26 times; and the popular series, Normal People – Connell’s chain included – could be enjoyed a total of 38.35 times.
However, sadly there still isn’t enough extra time to binge everything on Disney+ – even across a year, there would still be three-quarters of all the original content left to watch – or watch every episode of The Simpsons.
