What used to be a woman's size 12 in 1968 is a woman's size 4 today; what used to be third-class is economy-class today. What changed? We've grown more sensitive: I'm not overweight, I still fit into a size 12. I'm not a third-class passenger: I'm a price-conscious individual that rides in economy-class.
Despite the name games, airline food hasn't changed much. Economy class meals still come in a wrapper, and business class meals come with real cutlery. This list shows the sometimes striking difference between what the different classes eat in side by side comparison photos.
What do you think about the differences in airplane foods? Submit your comments and food menu photos below, and remember: cheap flight food isn't bad because it's cheap; it's purposefully bad to encourage those with money to buy upper-class tickets!

Japan Airlines
Economy , carrot looks ropey and greens overcooked , but business- miserable looking mushroom and f****d duck that's grey it's so overcooked. If I was served this in business ......
Aww the flower carrot!! Never been on business or first, but Ngl some economy food is mouthwatering af!
This still looks better than what United served us on our way to Seoul. Gack.
Air France
You get half of the food displayed in Economy, I dread flying Air France because their service is mediocre and they messed up my luggage.
I've taken Air France several times and have been bumped to first class three times. The food (and service!) in first class is first class! Delicious, beautiful - and plenty of it - with all the champagne you can drink.
i mus be the poor traveler who really enjoys the food i get. its a treat to have someone else make and serve it to me. the rich people just have more reason to be picky and turn up their noses if it does not suit their taste.
Maybe it tells us that the airline is trying to get the economy class people to sleep after a heavy meal ?
i bet this is the business entree..and before there was an amazing appetizer..and after this followed an amazing desert..and i think you can ask for more of whatever you like in business/first
the diference is what your seeing in the economy photo that looks so good...is all youre getting..
Ana Airlines
While scrolling fast I thought the pokemon cup hada "a**l" written on it...
Emirates Airlines
Pictures are misleading, as this is only an appetizer, they serve multiple times for a single meal.
the food is the same; the service is remarkably different between the classes
1st class have 8 course meal that u can have anytime ... U have variety of choices ... And the dessert hmmmm ... That's not even putting in the basket of chocolates , biscuits, & sweet when u thru out the flight... Emirates 1st class rules... Not to mention high chances running into international celebs and athletes ....
Thai Airways
The first class dishes really looks like japanese food. It has wasabi and vegetables in sakura forms.
All that weird colorful sh*t is really unappealing...if im paying first class prices..i want a steak of kobe beef and truffle flavoured rice
They don't show you the economy meals as they're actually served...burnt on the outside, raw in the middle.
I was thinking the same thing. Why is the Thai airline serving Japanese food in First Class?
British Airways
why do airlines think people who are fool enough to shell out the extra dosh to buy the business/first class tickets can be trusted with cutlery/real glasses?
Agreed. Watch "Home Alone", and realize that Uncle Frank and his wife are just two of the reasons no one in first class should ever have anything but plastic. :)
Load More Replies...This is actually the only one so far where economy looks defnitely worse
Even the economy class meals look good. But then again these are foreign based airlines. American based airlines, economy meals is usually a bag of chips and a baloney sandwich if your lucky.
And they show such ads to entice ppl to purchase first class tickets www.hookedupon.com/british-airways-fuelled-by-love-ad-far-from-reality/
Arfid saying no to both except to the breads, yogurt and mysterious blue stick?
Turkish Airlines
Mainly the side dishes that look better in first class here.. :P And someone already ate the bread :')
sorry, the second one isn't in business class. Turkish Airlines' business class meals are a hundred times better
I travel fairly often and so far Turkish Airlines have absolutely the best food I've ever tried flying economy class, they give you at least two-three options to choose from (and their salmon is super delish!) :)
I've had plenty of economy class meals on Turkish air that look just like this Business class pic.
They offer you Turkish or French wine in economy class - when you ask for French, they say 'this is French grapes' (merlot) - lol - it is still Turkish wine
Load More Replies...they really don't look much different, quality wise. although I would want the little mini cheeseboard
Singapore Airlines
Economy looks f****d and suspiciously like BA food ( see previous ) But 1st looks like a load of melon wedges topped with a couple of sardines. Still going for the filling looking stodge of economy on a long haul flight
First class ham and melon looks great. The economy meal could have come from United, instead of an East Asian airline.
what is that on that plate, I won't dare myself eat such First Class meal...eow!
Air Canada
Agreed until this picture, I always thought 'The economy food looks more appetizing and it looks like there's more of it. '
Load More Replies...Never mind " Oh Canada! " It's "a for f**k's sake Air Canada" If I paid a s**t ton of money to fly business only to discover that economy were getting perfectly 'Al dente' green beans while mine were boiled to death ( again see above posts) a gravy that's disappeared and bread rolls that look like snapping turtles , I'd be kicking off big style bruv !
That is not Air Canada Business, that is premium economy, their Business meals, and set up, are far superior to this. You get what you pay for. Airline tickets are 50% of the cost now, compared to the 1970s. So are aircrew wages. Stop being so cheap. You're flying through the air in a chair, at 900km/hour.
Air Canada without a doubt had the worst airline food I ever tasted. Wasn't even edible. They served me frozen vegetables and when I asked politely, if u could have a salad instead, the flight attendant got mad at me and told me no and said some people preferred their vegetables frozen over warm. Huh?!
I feel like you should be offered the same food no matter the class your in. It should be more based on how much your willing to spend for your meal, not where your seated. On the ground if I wanna go somewhere and eat steak darn toots I will, should be the same in the air. All they need to do is ask when your setting up your flight what meal you want, not that hard. lol
Aegean Airlines
Many Greeks would not consider it a meal if there was no bread :P
Load More Replies...Looks like a slug on that glop of yellow (top left) in the business class...!
omg, if i saw something called 'digestive' on my tray i wouldn't dare eat anything, - just in case ! :D
I have NEVER seen anything as good as these economy class meals on any of my USA flights
lol you constipated greeks..no wonder they give you a Digestive cookie to finish..lol..easy with the bread guys..
Cathay Pacific Airlines
Cathay Economy doesn't look too bad. Had a Kit Kat on Air Berlin; but just a Kit Kat!
Klm
Yeah, must be transatlantic. Klm around Europe has crapy sandwich in Economy and nice 3 course meal in Business
it's transcontinental meal. been tgere, ate that. it'sactually pretty good and when you get to asia for example you even get a choice between european and asian kitchen
Load More Replies...Honestly, people, where did you get these photos? Klm does not give you that much food on economy. I bet none of them do.
I think all of the pictures are from trans transatlantic flights
Load More Replies...Kenya Airlines
Is it just me or in Kenyan Airlines food looks better in Economy thank in Business? :D
Business class looks terrible. What the hell is that purple c**p?
Lufthansa
In the past 3-4 year I have flied with Lufthansa fairly often and all they ever give in economy class is a sandwich. Where did you get these photos from? :D :D
Well it really depends on the length of the flight, the trans-Atlantic serves exactly this, if you're lucky that is.
Load More Replies...That's a load of c**p! I flew on this airline and didn't get all of that in economy! To be fair though it was a lot better than the American food they served on the way to germany!
American Airlines
I can guarantee this is a transatlantic flight because cross country you're lucky if u get a bag of nuts
All US carriers treat economy passengers like cattle... I'm amazed they don't just strap a feedback to your snout with some oats
Load More Replies...You most have gotten the pictures for economy class for United and American mixed up with another airline. I haven't seen that much food in economy for at least twenty years.
Actually, economy class looks ok but most airline food looks somewhat edible and the moment you take a bite..... Bleeeauuuugghhhh
Its not food as I would define it... that why I eat BRAINS!!!
Load More Replies...Korean Airlines
You clearly don't know what dish this is...you mix the veggies and meet with the rice to make a sort of fried rice.
Load More Replies...Yo, i went on Korea air, and with my arfid im picky, but the economy food was real good!
oh... this was the only one so far that actually looked better for being business class...
Load More Replies...Air China
Lol. Air China literally have one of the best economy class meals. The other is Lufthansa and British Airways if you travel to Europe
I,ve been on a South China Air business flight a few years ago and the food was deltious. Nothing compared to that since.
I live in china so i fly a lot and i have to say china air food is quite delicious
United
Only united and the Korean Airlines does not have overcooked vegetable.
Easily could tell that United have one of the worst airline foods in economy, which is in fact worse than American Airlines
what miserable looking food! nearly all the foreign airlines look much better!
Delta
Delta has decent food, however you get a main course, an appetizer (not 2 like in the picture) and something sweet like a small candy bar. You get bread and margarine (no cheese, I got spoilt by Qatar and Etihad, sigh) and in Economy your selection of drinks is sort of limited compared to other long-haul airlines.
Delta has the best airline foods with the others being Cathay Pacific, Air China, etc.
Klm Economy Class
I'm a "tree hugger". How is it with "respect" that they still killed the chicken?
The chicken left a last will and testament- he wanted to die- it was his time..
Load More Replies...Garuda Indonesia - 1st Class (main Course And Dessert From 3course Meal)
At least, they still provide the food for my ##### stomach :D And to be honest: they are delicious. I mean it. Best food
Etihad Business Class (breakfast)
Garuda Indonesia - 1st Class (main Course And Dessert From 3course Meal)
Alitalia - Medium Haul Economy Class Over 3 Hours & Medium Haul Business Class
Klm Economy (european Flight)
Unboxing the sandwich was funny, the happy cows made me laugh quite a lot ;-)
Alitalia Medium Haul Economy Class Over 3 Hours
Alitalia Economy & Medium Haul Business Class
its stale cheap food that has no taste though...;))) sometimes less in more!
Load More Replies...I get the suspicion that a deliberate effort was made here to make first class/business class seem worse than economy :/
well, that comparison is not fair, cause business gives you 3 course meal, so there should be 3 photos compared to 1 tray. Waste of my time;)
Not all airline food is bad after all. Even much of Economy was more than acceptable.
I did forget about comfort, thats what I guess you are paying more full and Air Hostess more on your Demand.
