Grandson Decides To Get His 84-Year-Old Grandpa A New Wardrobe And Makes Him An Instagram Star
The fashion stars and influencers of Instagram have become way too predictable: The sleek, tanned bodies, the trappings of wealth, the same poses in the same exotic locations. Sometimes we need a reminder that as a visual medium, there is far more fun we could be having with it.
Enter 84-year-old Japanese Grandfather Tetsuya, a retired chemistry teacher, who has become an unlikely, yet refreshing presence in the fashion world. Tetsuya recently had a visit from his grandson Naoya Kudo, who was back home in Akita Prefecture for a week-long holiday, and they spent some quality grandson/grandpa time taking photos and trying out some fun and trendy outfits.
The results of Tetsuya's 'photoshoots' were so good, that Naoya Kudo decided to share them with the world. The cool photos quickly went viral, and the pair's Instagram account already has over 88k followers!

Kudo said that he hadn't been back to his hometown for a long time, so he wanted to reconnect with his family. Being into fashion trends himself, he thought it would be fun to get his grandfather into his cool outfits. "He was really enthusiastic about it," Kudo told Bored Panda. He suggested the shooting locations and everything."
The inspiration from the outfits came from the kind of things that Kudo wears every day. "He wore the same outfits that I actually wore in the past," he told us. "I brought my trendy clothes home for him."
It quite a transformation from the man who Kudo describes as a "normal grandpa" fashion-wise, to a stylish, elegant man of age. Tetsuya is aware of his new-found fame, but doesn't use social media. Kudo is currently running his Instagram account and will keep updating it; he has plenty more pics to share.
"It has been unexpectedly popular," he said. "I will continue for a while."
"I hope to make a photo book to give him as a present."
What do you think? Is Tetsuya looking suave or what?? Scroll down to check out his portfolio for yourself, and get inspired for your senior years!
I love the tradition modern look of the Japanese gentlemen, really lovely!
Put him on the cover of GQ pelase. This will mos def start a trend for older folks
Is it just me or does this guy looks like "Zatoichi" decided to finally go to retirement? ;)
This man's grandson has taste and money. I think I''m up for adoption now. Hello. Hello. Ready to be adopted over here3.
These are so compelling because it's not very often we see the elderly depicted in the media. They're underrepresented in our society.
And who’s to say someone his age isn’t as fashion conscious as someone younger. He looks terrific. ...///... The stupid thing is that the 20-somethings think that anyone over the age of 40 becomes a doddering idiot that can only wear rags. I realize that 50 seems old to these idiots, but they really need to get a grip.
Load More Replies...So nice to see a senior having a great time outside of the norm, perhaps more seniors having fun ,doing something unusual just because they want to , would be another post of interest !!!
Wish I worked in the industry. I'd waste ZERO time getting in touch with his stylist in terms of perhaps some specific branding and campaign work. His grandson has an impressive eye on an internationally conscious level. Whoever gets to that kid first, will be lucky. And Good On Grandpa! He looks AMAZING?
I would like to get some more info on the grandson-photographer-stylist-fashionista. Was this actually a fashion photo shoot? Because gramps is clad in some seriously expensive fashion garb for, well, let`s call them the well-heeled (I am nice today, so I am not going to say "fashion victims", really, I won't), and the quality of the photography is very high. He has got a great grandpa, there is a lot of love, experience, and dignity shining through. An excellent choice of model.
How nice now that I think of this when I'm 84 I want a 18 year old grandson who will do anything for my will
Am I the only person who feels this smacks of disrespect for elderly? What I see is an uncomfortable old gentleman gamely putting up with your idiotic and immature social media-driven non-sense.
