Yeah, but they also make you push yourself to better things. This is going to be cheesy, but when you expect, you actually try. Sure, you may not suffer if you don't expect anything, but you won't get anywhere. Expectations may hurt when you don't make them, but you'll remember that when you try again. Expectations push you forward, even if pain is involved. It's worth it.
