For those of you who don't know, vitiligo is a harmless long-term skin disorder characterized by white patches that appear on different parts of the body. This happens because the body's immune system attacks and destroys the skin cells that make color (called melanocytes).
Around one percent of the world's population (approximately 50 million people) are thought to have vitiligo, including between two to five million in the US alone, and although it's more common in humans, it can also occur in animals as well. Take a look at the pictures below to see what we mean. Compiled by Bored Panda, the list includes everything from cats, dogs and birds to snakes and even giraffes! My cat Trixie has vitiligo IMG_0089-5...e42ad8.jpg
This cat almost looks like a negative Siamese. vitiligo-r...5c0c07.jpg
Rottweilers have to fight past negative attitudes anyhow... and now this poor baby has to endure vitiligo that makes him look even spookier. I saw one poor Rottweiler who can't be adopted because of looking different / scary with vitiligo. Just ain't fair
oooh, it's wonderful expression✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌ :))))
Load More Replies...Dang kids with their snowballs, and I was dreaming of the rain forests...
Tell your love there to stop kissing your face until the color comes back.
1st Lion: "When I find who threw that flour bomb at me..." 2nd Lion: "Bob just leave it, I'm bored of this now"
Likes to stand right there in the shaded tree that lets in a little sun.
Wow, that's a pretty cat. Gentleman, I believe. :) He even has a Magnum-mustache, but in negative image lol.
This cat's face looks just like the one from The Last Unicorn movie! Crazy cool
"Really? It snowed? I don't believe it." "Just look at Jerry!" "Well.... You have a point"
What kind of tree is in the background? I've never seen anything like it?
This doggo has been adopted out and has a furrever home.
Load More Replies...I thought his tounge was out! :D ^^ he looks so cute with those little dots :)
"Dude. I swear. I was NOT making out with Molly. I just like pink lemonade!"
Harlequin Beaucerons usually have brown on them, don't they? Maybe it's a mixed breed, or maybe it really is vitiligo.
Load More Replies...Crows have black beaks that are much larger and are larger birds. Not sure of the exact identity of this bird however but it's not a crow-maybe a variety of myna? (not a common myna though)
Load More Replies...Tuxedo even! This guy is a punk-rocker, and proud of it! :)
Load More Replies...Not vitiligo, He/she is a piebald (his head has orange spots on his head, and has a few darker spots on his left wing. a true vitiligo would not have these marks). An amazing color nonetheless!
Could be, but unless you are familiar with this particular bird how do you know if those white patches were always there in adult plumage or if they have gradually appeared? If always there then leucism is the logical conclusion if these markings are not normally found on this species.
Load More Replies...This looks like an Eastern Quoll. Native to Australia. Spots are normal.
This list went from beautiful to sad because of the dead animals at the end.
vitiligo is so beautiful especially on dark skinned people! I love it <3
I like the first picture, but they all have amazing markings. Sorry that the last two animals have passed.

Number 18 does not have vitiligo, he has the merle gene. His coat is partially diluted and not the strong white that most Vitiligo animals have.
