Christmas and New Year’s Eve are approaching and there is so much magic and festivity in the air.
I belong to the generation which still remembers sending and receiving hand-written letters and greeting cards! It was a beautiful time, when receiving an envelope with stamps from your grand parents in Russia meant so much more than a modern Whatsapp message or a Facebook tag!
I always feel nostalgic during this time of the year, so decided to share with you some vintage cards from Soviet Union. All of them were very cute and artistic, with some folk flare, mostly featuring forest animals. Religiously Russia belongs to the Orthodox Church and follows the Gregorian Calendar, which means Christmas Day is celebrated on 7th of January. However, the New Year’s Eve celebrations are more enthusiastic in Russia, therefore, all the cards you see here have “Happy New Year” written on them!
Hope this post adds to your festive mood! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! :)
