She uses photos of forests and urban scenes, as well as shimmering reflective surfaces like glass and water to create intricate, mind-blowing images. Her astonishing portfolio is divided into collections with names like “Mindscapes” and “Cosmic Tumbler” that are filled with artwork titled after songs by the Grateful Dead and the Talking Heads.

Her ideas spring from a love of Escher’s art, though she credits other inspiration as well, such as the fantasy settings in the virtual game “Minecraft” and a natural inclination to use reflective surfaces and hidden animals in many of her compositions.

Kell produces hand-embellished originals, which are digitally printed giclees on canvas, and framed sculpturally with natural wood, or aluminum and copper pipes that give an industrial look. She also offers open edition prints that invite the viewer to step into a surreal, fantasy world.
