Just like humans, fruits and vegetables also have a cycle of life, filled with constant growth and changes. And, just like humans, their populations also have some weird fruits that don't fit in within the norms. Alterations in farming technology and methods, GMOs, and other factors can alter plants' appearances so much, they might start looking like something from Chernobyl.
Bored Panda has compiled a list of terrifyingly cool photos of awesome fruits and funny vegetables that proves how easily the common become bizarre. From strawberries sprouting seeds while they're still on the plant, to randomly blooming artichokes, and forever growing vegetables that seem never to stop expanding these plants would surprise even the most experienced gardeners. Scroll down to vote for your favorite flora Frankensteins, and feel free to upload your own photos of unexpected seed germination.

I Left My Artichoke Out Of The Fridge And It Bloomed
Pretty tasty, am i right! HA HA, ok, i'll go sit down now.
Load More Replies...Next time I'm in the dog house with my wife I'm not going to waste my money on flowers ... I'm buying her an artichoke!
"I must become too beautiful to be eaten!" - Mission accomplished. :D
Here's What Happens When You Leave Half A Cabbage In The Fridge Too Long.
Hey, plant it and you don't have to buy any more cabbage for a while! :)
um, no, that's not how it works :) once it sprouts a stalk it's no longer suitable for eating. Of course you can let it bloom, bear fruit and use the seeds, but it's actually quite a bit of work.
Load More Replies...just HOW long did you leave it in there for a freaking tree to grow out of it?
Leave your cabbage in the fridge for a month! Clean your gross fridge!
Sprouting Strawberry Seeds
I hope all know I was almost just killed of laughter, I really dont even know why this is so funny!!!
Load More Replies...Sooo I Forgot I Had Potatoes
The fact that someone finds this weird shows how far most people are from the farm.
At least yours grew - I found a bag in someone's pantry that had all turned to mush and was leaking from the bag. Potato-leak soup!
And the smell is so gross you can't wait to throw it out of the house.
Load More Replies...Be glad they didn't rot :D but then you'd notice pretty fast since rotting potatoes smell really foul.
Yes, and it never fails one of my bananas will get too brown to eat.
Load More Replies...I Cut And Apple In Half This Morning And Found The Seeds Had Started Sprouting Inside The Apple
I planted 9 seeds once. They grew a little, but then died all in the same day. I don't think they are supposed to be planted, unless you pick an organic apple :(
Load More Replies...First thing that came up in my mind was: "awww...how cute!! :3" o_o
I ate an apple that had the seeds sprouting and I've been growing my apple tree ever since
I've had that happen - it's a little bit of Mother Nature's sense of humor!
I had that happen with a grapefruit, so I planted it had the plant 5 years!
An Avocado Tree Was Starting To Grow Inside My Avocado
If you live in the South, put it in a planter, and when it takes off, plant the entire thing into the ground, in your back yard, and you will have an avocado tree which will pay you dividends later on. :D
Way south, like Florida, south. It just makes a nice house plant in Tennessee. Avocados right off the tree , though, yuummmm.
Load More Replies...I never seen an avocado do that! they usually just got black and soft
I never succed to germinate an avocado that much... fact is I don't have a green thumb. I could make a plastic plant die.
Load More Replies...THAT IS SO HARD TO GET! I remember my mom leaving the seed in half water so it grew... never did!
It takes months to start sprouting. Must have patience.
Load More Replies...When it grows to about 6" in height, cut the top and it will grow into a bushy tree.
Ingrown Tomato
Just look at all the tomato plants, already germinated and ready to be sectioned and planted for an even greater harvest later on. Can't beat that with a stick! :D
It kinda looks like it should be beaten with a stick:)

People these days spent more time online than offline. So they miss these basic facts.
Sounds like this is run of the mill for most, however I'd never seen a sprouted coconut before...
Duh! I'm amazed at how anyone could be surprised at a normal coconut doing its normal sprouting.
This Bell Pepper Has Other Bell Peppers Growing Inside Of It
Hmm I always thought it is kind of common to find peppers like that. From what I know, those aren't seeds sprouting and new vegetables growing, just an ingrown parts of the very same bell pepper you're holding.
This one hasn't sprouted from the seeds inside though. This is just a slightly deformed capsicum. If it was from the seeds it would be the plant not the fruit.
Seeds Sprouting From Inside A Tomato
Actually I have found seeds sprouting inside several good, firm tomatoes this summer. Looked so gross couldn't eat. Why is this happening because I really like tomatoes.
Where do people find these things? I would have thought a tomato would be rotten before it's seeds germinated.
Some tomatoes are stored in high nitrogen, low oxygen, to keep them fresh longer (upwards of 6 weeks!). There's a lot of debate on the "freshness" part. Anyway, if the mix and/or timing is off they can sprout. The fruit "thinks" its in the right conditions for germination and off it goes!

This Strawberry's Seeds Started Sprouting While It Was Still On The Plant
Well, strawberries are kinda aggressive plant - they spread REALLY quickly. I'm not surprised this one was so exited. :D
I wonder how that effects the taste? Is it just a strawberry with a leafy undertone or does the germination process use up the sugars to sprout?
So, The Seeds Of The Papaya I Bought Yesterday Were Sprouting Inside Of It
Who cuts their papaya like this?! ... it's like they carved out a viewing window
...um move like "neat" than terrifying but interesting pix..the blooming artichoke was beaitiful!
Friend Cleaned Out His Pantry And Found An Old Bag Of Potatoes He'd Forgotten About
could have been a fortnight or even less. those beasts are fast.
Load More Replies...My God that's scary! It looks like some alien thing is clawing out of the bag!
When they start growing they have to be sorta dry so really they just smell like dirt/earthy smell
Load More Replies...We will persevere! Even if there is a plastic bag in the way!
i just stick them in water and let them grow. they are pretty plants
I Picked Some Lemons Off My Tree And The Seeds Had Begun Sprouting Inside The Lemons
That happened to my key lime. It is growing nicely now. You can start some lemon trees
Friend Of Mine Found An Apple With An Apple Tree Growing Out Of It
This one looks fake, especially with the cutting on the side... :x
My best guess is that someone did this on purpose in order to get at least one of the seeds to germinate. By slicing into the center, it exposes it to oxygen which would allow the seeds to germinate easier. Then once the seed takes off through the opening, just plant it into the ground, and Voila, Johnny Appleseed strikes again. :D
Load More Replies...I think your "friend" cut a slit in an apple and stuck a stem with leaves in it.
That's for sure an apple from the Harold's head! (Fallout 2 fans will know)
nawp probably not real. Yes I agree with Alusair it has a cut. Also, the plant doesn't look like an apple sprout.
Found A Pumpkin Sprouting Inside My Pumpkin
Haha, your comment was so random it made me laugh lol.
Load More Replies......how can the sprout already be green, even though it never came into contact with light...? (you know, photosynthesis and s**t...?) are the pumpkin pics even real...? not accusing ANYONE, just wondering :D
My Pumpkin Was Growing Pumpkins Inside Itself
Does any of this remind you of Little Shop of Horrors? "Feed me Seymore!"
Because no one knows where their food comes from anymore. Very sad.
Load More Replies...Is it just me who isn't terrified or uncomfortable looking at things which are completely normal and natural.. not to mention commonplace enough not to be panicked about ?Or am i missing something here !!!??????
You are not alone XD but let's panick! PLANTS GERMINATE! Beware! Killer tomatoes are coming!
Load More Replies...Terrifying really? Growing plants? Let's fear the killer tomatoes strike back !
What's creepy about this? It's just nature doing its job. The longer we stay inside four walls and spend time on our phones the faster nature will start feeling weird to us till such time we have lost all connect with our roots. It's sad.
What is there to be frightened of just plant them in the garden growbag or allotment have fresh veggies in a few weeks that's what I do all the time have lovely apple trees pear trees plum trees cherry trees lovely fresh veg gro wing all year round don't waste it grow it save tons of money in the long run
I think people who are finding this disturbing are experiencing Trypophobia Or something similar to it. I don't think about not knowing where food comes from. It is sort of like a visual version of Autonomous sensory meridian response. These responses can be very common.
YES! And thank you for mentioning it. I AM an old country gal and know what all these things look like in the "wild", except the tropical ones. What freaks me out the most is how NONE of these self starters have a single spot of decay on them. Yes the seeds sprout from the fruit ALL THE TIME, BUT what is triggering the seeds to sprout before the right time? And in temperatures well below normal?
Load More Replies...Well I didn't find that terrifying at all scary would be to have a seed sprouting from you tooth which I've seen that on facebook before
