“Where Is Daddy?” – A Children Book About Diverse Families! Staring A Lioness And Her Cub.
We, Mirna Funk & Maayan Sophia Weisstub, have been working on the children’s book “Where Is Daddy” since a couple of months. In this book you will find 12 families with many different structures: A wolf who had a sperm donor to get twins, giraffe grandparents who take care of their grand children because the biological parents were shot by hunters, a gay mountain gazelle couple who adopted a turtle and a classical hetero-normative cat family. Because we think: ALL FAMILIES ARE EQUALLY PERFECT.
We are already half way through the illustrations and the German text. Now we need money for the website, the first translations into English, French and Spanish, a graphic designer that will create the final book, the calendar and other edits that need to be done. As well as printing the first 1000 copies.
We started already to organise readings for children during Christmas time to bring the idea that every family, no matter how it is structures, is perfect. Families are much more diverse than the classical Mommy, Daddy, Child combination. There are LGBT couples, grandparents, single-moms, non biological parents, uncles and aunts that take care of children and treat them with love and commitment.
The more money we will raise, the more translations, readings and advertisement we can do to bring the idea of “Where Is Daddy?” to every child in the world that feels like something is wrong with them when they look at most children books.
