Bus stops are some of the most unremarkable places in the city. Places we just pass by, lose our time in waiting and go our way. Instead we could turn them into a place of inspiration. For example, in a platform for young authors.

That is exactly what we from “Kashalot” did. We spend a lot of our time waiting for the bus to come. Most of the time we are glued to our cell phones completely ignoring the environment around us. We decided to change this.

In 2018 we started a small project called “Bus stop stories”. We asked people to write short stories (up to 250 characters) and promised to published the best ones on the citylights on selected bus stops in our native city of Varna, Bulgaria.

The project turned out to be so successful that in 2019 we did it again this time in 3 cities – Varna, Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria) and Plovdiv – the second biggest city in the country and the European Capital of Culture for 2019.

We received more than 1300 stories in total and for a period of a month and a half (May 20th – June 30th) have managed to display 14 stories in Sofia, 24 stories in Plovdiv and 20 stories in Varna.

Authors are pretty much everyone who loves to write and manages to do it well in 250 characters. Out idea is to provide a tribune to young inspiring authors from all over the country.

“Kashalot” is a small Varna-based NGO aiming to improve and transform the urban environment in a creative and unique way. We love what we do and feel proud to make the cities we live a better and more inspiring places to live.

All stories are available on our website www.spirkazarazkazi.bg and on our FB page www.facebook.com/kashalot.varna
