Imagine dropping everything and jumping into something you’ve never done before.

This is exactly what we did just over 2 years ago when we decided to ditch our well-established marketing agency to build bespoke, unique garden rooms.

It all started when we needed a new garden storage building. Something which was at the same time practical, beautiful and complimented our garden. Everything we could find on the market was looking exactly the same. Eventually, we decided to take the matter into our own hands.

After many evenings spent talking and sketching we finally had our perfect garden storage room design.

It was now time to build it! And that required a bit more knowledge than an eye for aesthetic and some technical knowledge. We went for help to the builders who were refurbishing our flat at the time. They were very happy to help. And till now they are still part of the team!

One warm summer evening while sitting in the garden, sipping a glass of wine and admiring our own creation I said: “That was fun. Should we start building garden rooms?” To my surprise, after a few seconds of silence, Ivana replied: “Yes, let’s do it.”

And so ‘A Room in the Garden’ was born.

In the first few months, we completed our first paid project. After a scary period where nothing was happening, another order came, and another one, and one more…

In November 2017 we registered A Room in the Garden as a Limited company, and after around 17 months of building we now have a portfolio full of unique garden buildings, and our calendar is always filled with new orders.

The most amazing thing is we are now receiving requests from all over the UK. Architects contact us to design garden rooms for those clients who want something special and unique. We even had a request from Italy.

Don’t get us wrong, the journey was not easy at all and very scary too (and still is). We put everything we had on the line. But with a lot of hard work and passion, everything is possible. It was the best decision we could have ever made!

Living in Brighton & Hove, England, for sure helped. It is a very vibrant place, full of interesting people always searching for something special and unique.

So, if you find yourself stuck in a job which stopped bringing you joy, if you have that little voice inside you that keeps telling you it is time for a change, just go for it! It will be hard at first, but it will be well worth it!

As all our garden buildings are insulated, they also have a spare bedroom now

Then it was a storage room, a carport and pool kitchen

At the end, we have completed 5 projects in this amazing house

In the meantime, we were also working on much smaller, quirky designs

A very special shape and finish of the entire building makes it absolutely unique

The more we build them, the more interesting projects we have, like this one – a garden office hidden away on top of the garden…

Sometimes we squeeze them into small spaces…

Sometimes, however, we have much more room, like this one, which is currently being built next to a pond in the middle of the forest
