My husband and I just spent 5 months volunteering around South America. We volunteered in 4 different organizations from Costa Rica, to Ecuador, and Brazil. We saw so many incredible things every single day, it really blew my mind!
I have always loved animals and I knew there was amazing biodiversity in the world, but getting to experience it first hand was such an incredible experience! On an almost daily basis, I would exclaim "Oh my goodness!" out of shock and excitement at what incredible things I had stumbled upon in the jungle! I have been recording videos throughout our whole trip, and you can see them on my Youtube channel below.

Beautiful Green Butterfly!
A Baby Peccary!
Free pig for the win. They probably don't find many truffles, but they are most likely happiest in the jungle finding their own food.
Load More Replies...A Pineapple Plant!!
I died with this! I live in a country where pineapple is exported. If you go to certain parts you'll see the big pineapple plantations. This photo reminds me that some people just don't have such "fruit wonders" like us in tropical countries :(
Beautiful Green-Headed Tanager!
Go to 1:33 and 2:57 to see this stunning bird in action! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0CdRM3y7ik&t=10s

2 Inch Bullet Ants! Climbing All Over Your Laundry....
i think they're called bullet ant because their stings hurt like if you've been shot
Yep. There is also a tribe who puts them into gloves made from leaves and then the men have to wear them and dance. Their hands swell up and are unusable for days. The pain is so severe some try to chop off their hands. And they have to do this on several occasions during their lifetime. Some sort of "proof your masculinity" thing.
Load More Replies...Once I went to Costa Rica and went through the rain forest on a guided tour and before we got too far into it, I was leaning against the railing and looked to my left just in time to see a bullet ant getting ready to crawl into my hand! The tour guide said those are the only bugs he was afraid of. On another note, that same tour guide had a good laugh at my expense the entire tour because every freaking bug in the rain forest decided it was a fine day to go human chasing and you can guess who their target was. The entire tour I spent running from bugs. Just me. No one else...
Now that I see these I'm just glad I have millimeter-long to centimeter-long ants in my house instead of two-inch ones that sting..
Gigantic Colourful Millipede, As Wide As Your Finger And 6 Inches Long!
Jet-Black Grasshopper With Bright Red Eyes!
Tarantula Bigger Than Your Hand!
This takes me back - I used to have a pet Chile Rose it wasnt quite as big as my hand and very friendly
takes me back even more - i am an animal lover - but i was going on holiday for a week and had a jar of crickets- didnt want to leave them -so set them free in my garden sort of assuming that they would be ok...there was a heatwave that week and they infested a dozen gardens - drove the neighbours mad all night - I never admitted responsibility
Load More Replies...I wouldn't last an hour in the jungle. I'd be dead. Either from wildlife or suicide.
I've read that tarantulas are very gentle and friendly and can make great pets!
And THAT, my friends...is a ride on the NOPE-ville express to f**k thats-ville where I am the MAYOR!!
A Crazy Looking Green And Orange Bug!
This is a Diactor Bilineatus, it is really beautiful, but it is a pest in the cultivation of passion fruit. Here in Brazil we call this insect "Passion fruit Bedbug".

Why does this remind me of that scene near the end of Coraline where the Other Mother's hand became a weird spider-thingy and tried to take her back?

Load More Replies...I'd be getting out of there so fast. Even small snakes terrify me (especially after I almost stepped on very poisonous one last year), I hope I never meet one of these face to face.
*venomous, English is not my first language haha
