50 Times People Spotted A Building That Looked Straight Up Evil And Had To Share
If you ever came across a building that sent shivers down your spine and looked like something from a dystopian movie, the chances are you encountered an ‘evil building.’ No, we are not saying it’s possessed or anything, but it probably landed in the most villainous collection of architectural wonders on Reddit.
Welcome to Evil Buildings, a subreddit that celebrates structures, houses and establishments that could easily be home to a super villain or evil corporation. Created in 2016, it now has a whopping 904k members and it’s likely to hit a million some time soon.

This Is A Fire Station In Italy. Hail Hydrant!
It looks cool actually. Like the architect had a sense of humor. Some would call it postmodern architecture. Although the large black wall seems too expensive to be built from taxpayers.
Why would a black wall be more expensive than any other kind of wall? 🤔 I found the fire station on Street View (Via Johan Steck 34, Margreid, Alto Adige) btw, it looks like it's a run of the mill concrete wall with black fabric cover
Load More Replies...You can't fool me with that weak cover story. That is clearly a super villain's lair!
The Bridge That Loki Built
Those curvy upright thingies must be where they string up the bodies of executed traitors and thieves.
I am trying very hard to NOT imagine what you just said💀
Load More Replies...It's the fog that's ominous, not the bridge. I imagine it is quite majestic on a sunny afternoon.
Is this a bridge to N Korea? It reminds me of the bridge in a Pierce Brosnan James Bond movie

Load More Replies...Wonder if the building was designed specifically so the sun would shine through that spot on a specific day and time.
No wonder there’s a whole subreddit dedicated to evil-looking buildings that has a whopping 904k members. A dystopian architecture has been capturing our imagination for years, especially in movies. Think of Blade Runner’s Tyrell Corporation or Robocop’s Omni Consumer Products, the aesthetics of dystopian capitalism is a staple of many films’ key antagonists.
According to 99percentvisible, what’s fascinating about the evil megacorporation is that its architectural aesthetic has remained virtually unchanged throughout its history: brooding Late Modernist (AKA High-tech or Structural Expressionist) buildings have become a well-worn trope, reaching a peak during the sci-fi smorgasbord of the 80s.
Maybe All These Evil Buildings Are Just Misunderstood
Well, these are naval fire control towers built by the Nazis during WW2 (one on Guernsey and the second in France, near Bayonne), so no wonder they have an evil aura about them...
WWII German Naval direction-finding tower, built on the occupied Island of Guernsey.
All the Channel Islands were occupied. The only park of the UK that was during WWII.
Load More Replies...The Witch's Den
That one is totally amazing, I LOVE it! And I think it's cozy, not scary or evil.
Do you know its name? There are many hotels in this town ^^'
Load More Replies...Nah, not a witch’s den. I can imagine seven dwarfs living there with their comparatively tall housekeeper.
I think it would be precious with the right flowers. Wisteria growing along the eaves, foxglove, delphinium, and phlox in the yard. A real English country garden.
I love it too!! Also, expecting Shrek and Fiona to pop out the door any minute now:)
When A Simple "Do Not Enter" Sign Just Won't Do
It's a temple door in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It's Padmanabhaswamy Temple. It had 6 underground vaults that were found in recent history and only this one remains unopened. $22 billion worth of gold was unearthed from other chambers, but only this one could not be opened. It's said that it's locked with 'naga paasam mantra' spell. Only a sage who can recite the Garuda mantra in proper way is fabled to open it.
Nope. This is a 3D rendering done as part of a tutorial by Mario Russo. http://www.free3dtutorials.com/making-of-the-gates-of-hell.php
Load More Replies...This seems to be somehow connected to the Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram, India, but I couldn't find any other picture than this one and it doesn't fit the rest of the temple's exterior.
When it comes to a specific architectural period, Modernism has always been at the forefront of a sinister movie. Fritz Lang’s Metropolis with its Art Deco styling and Bond villain’s house are great examples. Other architectural periods of evil corporations include Late Modernism as seen in Evil, Inc. which was inspired by architecture between 1960 and 1980.

It isn't in Hiroshima but in Saijo. The architect is Makoto Tanijiri. It's inspired by traditional Japanese pit houses.

It is ponte Towers, in Joburg. 55 Storeys high. Was extremely posh when built in the 70s. It is now filled with the nastiest Joburg has to offer. A few years ago, the rubbish inside went up to the 5th storey. South African films Chappie and District 9 shot scenes there, as well as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
It's just like the building in the newer Dredd movie.
Load More Replies...You can almost hear the echo of the screams of the suffering souls being poked by Lucifer's crew down at the bottom.

Many of them are somehow connected to our nations history, so not very understandable internationally.:-/ But I would call him a real life Troll. :-D

When Your Church Has Frickin' Lasers
Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral, Clermont-Ferrand, France
Clermont-Ferrand is located in the heart of the Volcans d'Auvergne, a range of extinct (for tens of thousands years) volcanoes. That's why a lot of buildings look very dark and sometimes completely black on pictures: they are built with volcanic rocks. Incidentally, the area is a great place for thermal baths and mineral water (Volvic being the most famous one)
Have you visited Agde? That one is also very surprising.
Load More Replies...The building material is made from volcanic rock. This whole city reminded me of Aberdeen in Scotland.

This is in Frankfurt, I live here ... The color in this picture is not correct, the lights are more of a dark yellow which is the color of Commerzbank. But the building is indeed quiet ugly ...

Oh yeah... I wonder how the delivery guys settled the delivery indeed.. Will always past this place on the highway in Singapore
This Apartment Complex Looks Like A Sci-Fi Prison
Imagine living in an apartment with only one big round window. It would be like a low security prison.
Iirc, it was initially a capsule hotel that was turned into small apartments. (bedsits, they may be called in the UK or US.) Basically just the bare minimum, but given the population of Tokyo.. well, enough said. There's not a lot of space for so many people so this sort of thing happens
Load More Replies...Just watched a short documentary about this on YouTube. They were meant to be replaced every 20 years or so, but you need everyone's permission to do so and to try to get the timing right was a nightmare. There are no kitchens. You have enough room for a bed, fold down desk, small fridge and microwave. Most were used as party rooms or work rooms - the workers would go there to nap and do their overtime work. Oh and the windows don't open.

It's the Soviet "Duga-1" (Дуга́, "curve") over-the-horizon radar - it was designed to see the NATO nuclear missiles as soon as they launch by refracting a powerful shortwave signal off the ionosphere. It's located in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and thus abandoned, but two others are still nominally active - "Duga" in Mykolaiv, in southern Ukraine and "Duga-2" in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Siberia.

It's not? They're all in a dystopian world with their felled leader. I can't believe people still drink his Kool Aid.

it was wonderful in the 70s and 80s we don't have fairs and carnivals like in the US where they were all the time, only the Easter Show at Easter and Luna Park...it was 5.00 all day and it was awesome, then it got really expensive and paying for each ride etc and then they closed it because of the death (my condolences). Why would you want to? There’s no yard, plus how tf would a maintenance person be able to work on something on the exterior? Not to mention how f*****g gloomy the place is. Hard pass for me.

It sits there, grey, even on sunny days, exuding the horror that the people who were incarcerated there experienced. I don't care how they "clean" it up. It is still drenched in the blood of the people who were tortured and murdered there.
The building itself doesn't look too bad (aside from being squat and ugly) but when you know its back story (e.g., "the Great Purge"), it becomes much more hideous. They should tear that one down.
