Unconventional Microcosms By Italian Photographer Elena T.

In a always-in-a-hurry world like ours, small things go usually unnoticed, not only due to their tiny size: sometimes it’s not easy to see the beauty that lies within everyday objects, as we are used to consider them not worth a second look.
I am particularly fond of those details available in nature, and when I was a child I was lucky enough to be taught by my mom to find beauty everywhere.
The aim of my photography is therefore that of showing the wonders of a tiny yet meaningful world, giving the unnoticed a chance to breach itself and reach the surface.

These are a few photographs from my portfolio that I would like to share with you:

The first step towards creating our future is leaving the darkness of the present behind, for only light can reveal the beauty inside each one of us.

This photograph is probably the one that best represents my idea of “Unconventional Microcosms”. It makes me see a whole universe in it, and reminds me of a quote from William Blake’s Auguries of Innocence that I have always loved:

To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
    And eternity in an hour.

We should be grateful to obscurity: if it wasn’t for the surrounding darkness, we wouldn’t shine so bright!

Fond of art, keen on literature and with a pronounced interest for everything that goes usually unnoticed, from the outwardly meaningless details to the small things often put in the shadows by situations or objects seen as more relevant, I have developed a special aptitude for eclecticism since childhood. The aim of my photography is that of showing the wonders of a tiny yet meaningful world, giving the unnoticed a chance to reach the surface.

Hello Sav, thank you very much! :) When my photography path began, I invested some money in a Canon Digital Rebel and only one lens (a 60mm one). You need nothing more (I use no flashes nor tripods). I played with that lens a lot trying to express my creativity and imagination through it... these are the results :) At first I shot in automatic mode, then I decided I wanted to experiment more - and the manual mode came. I'm self-taught at it, I think reading information on-line and playing a lot (the old trial and error method works!!!) can suffice :) Good luck!!!

Hi Alex, thank you very much for your comment! I'm particularly glad to hear this because photographers often think of macrophotography as something that only has to do with zoomed insects... but there's something more creative about it, and that's what I do my best to try and develop. I would love to see your macros! :)
