As a pro-life person myself, I have to say the child support thing is a fabulous idea. Actually, earlier this month I believe, a democrat in Oklahoma introduced a bill that would require men to financially support the unborn baby and mother, and the idea was generally applauded by pro-lifers. I'm not sure why everyone thinks this is a good argument against us, because most of the pro-lifers I know would agree.

I firmly believe people that find themselves in this situation should exercise their legal rights and force the courts to go on the books one way or the other. Either they uphold the law and create more complications in society or they can't uphold the abortion law because they can't also accommodate all these downstream implications (also their base argument would be proven hypocritical).

It is possible to have insurance money even if you misscarry early, I sadly know that from own experience. Would rather have a live baby then the money though. Child support sounds great, but not sure what costs someone in a belly has, no activities or clothing and we have free maternal care. I sure can take the child support for my pregnancy cravibgs though 😁.

Child support is to support the life of the child. So if a child is alive at 6 weeks payments start then. The way to argue out of it would mean reversing the argument that life begins at 6 weeks (or conception as some would have it).

It has to do with trust. People who are against the vaccine do not trust the government.. at all.. in any situation. Credentials, logical arguments, nothing will sway this type of thinking. Public trust in our government has been eroding for more than half a century and it's likely only going to get worse.
According to a 2020 Pew Research Center survey about gender equality, many of the values of the feminist movement have been accepted across the political spectrum in the United States, even among Americans who don't personally identify as feminists.
For instance, a majority of Democrats and Republicans say it is very important for women to have equal rights with men. Similarly, majorities in both partisan coalitions support adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
But feminists are much more likely than non-feminists to say the country has not gone far enough when it comes to giving women equal rights with men (74% vs. 39%). Feminists are also more likely to say the bigger problem is people not seeing discrimination against women where it really does exist, rather than people seeing discrimination against women where it really does not exist (81% of adults who identify as feminists say not seeing discrimination is the bigger problem, compared with 53% of non-feminists).

Just like a prosecutor who wrongfully convicts ppl for crimes they didn't commit, ESPECIALLY death sentence cases should them have to serve just as much time as the innocent person did before they were exonerated. Maybe they would be more careful about who they threw in jail n who they decide to murder. There has been so many ppl put to death and later exonerated... yet the US has done NOTHING to stop wrongful conviction or done anything to reform the system. Let that sink in.

You might remember trump referred to africa as shitholes. Well, our CONSTITUTION, which is not a document that is 235 years old, gives: paid maternity leave; universal basic education and feeding at schools (free but state only); minimum wage; free water up to 50kL; free housing if you are indigent (*waiting queue applies); 5 kWh free electricity; free hospital (state only). Of course, when your tax base is 10% of the population, these things may not be first-world standard, but at least our constitution supplies them as human rights. Strangely, we do NOT have a right to carry a gun.

The researchers think these differences can be somewhat explained by partisanship: feminists are far more likely than non-feminists to identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party.
Overall, Democrats and those who lean Democratic are more likely than Republicans and Republican leaners to say gender equality is very important, and they are more than twice as likely to say the country has not gone far enough in giving women equal rights (76% vs. 33%). And while most Democrats (85%) say the bigger problem is people not seeing discrimination against women where it really does exist, a much smaller share of Republicans (46%) say the same.

I'm so tired of men shouting out "but what about men????!" in the comments of every post like this. Or "all lives matter"-people. Of course the same goes for all humans. It's just as bad if a woman does this to a man and every true feminist would agree with that. But, there is a difference historically and on a structural level. We're trying to even out the field and that's why we say "women's rights" or "black lives matter". Instead of being hurt that men (or white people regarding race) are not particularly mentioned you should get the point and understand that's already covered and have been for thousands of years.

THIS is being "triggered". THIS is PTSD. Too many people think that you can't say certain things or talk about certain subjects because it might "trigger" someone... but it won't. I'm sure this woman is perfectly comfortable talking about the subject of assault without any dramatic results. But she smells a specific laundry detergent and this happens. "trigger warnings" are impossible because what actually triggers PTSD is completely unique and specific to the individual situation. A soldier might get PTSD when he hears a car backfire, or fireworks. But won't be "triggered" because someone is talking about bombings or war. -- This might seem like a bit of a weird rant, but I find it annoying how people are misusing and the term "triggered" as a result trivializing PTSD.

You aren't going to get people out there who understand triggers (and triggers are for SO many different issues) until they have a trigger. and scent is the longest lasting sense. Basically, some people (men and women) will be very understanding. Some will be as cruel as "you haven't got over that already?"

That would be when those human trials, nutters, keep bringing up. Polio was eradicated for the most part because more people globally cooperated, trusted the researchers and got vaxxed. Yes but that's not what Biden and democrats are doing though. 400k a year maybe sounds like a lot but in some places like NY and California that describes hundreds of thousands if not millions of working professional couples that vote for democrats and are solidly middle class. I don't really understand this one, the water was paid for by someone so why would they care that much about who actually used it? Especially since water is a utility so there are fairly strict limits set on it.

Either we're not getting all of the story, or it's fabricated. If someone is paying their water bill, they can use that water however they like. Also, police do not come out to shut off water, the utility company does that themselves. Unless, as I said, we're missing part of the story. Years ago, my grandfather briefly worked as a repo man for Sears. He and his coworker were sent to repo a washer and dryer from a family who had made all but one payment. He asked his boss what to do with the appliances, and the boss said to take them to the junkyard. My grandfather drove back to the family, reinstalled their washer and dryer, told the boss the job was done, and quit without notice. My grandfather had a strong moral compass, and nearly all of it was based on treating others well.

I went to a Catholic school where there was only a handful of black kids. 2 of them being like family because we grew up next door to eachother, celebrated holidays together, birthday etc. well in 5th grade Kam n Nick got cornrows. They looked great! They were told it was an "inappropriate hairstyle n needed to be removed or they'd be suspended" meanwhile.. we had just gotten back from spring break where every fucken white girl who went to florida for vacation had THE SAME FUCKEN BRAIDS IN THEIR HAIR.. but that was acceptable because "they got it done on vacation.. it's like a right of passage to go to the beach and have your hair braided" (I s**t you not THAT was the argument) .. but it isn't a "right of passage" for two young black men to have their hair braided in traditional protective styles that is actually apart of THEIR culture and has an actual fucken purpose beyond just looking dope af? That was the first time I realized how f****d up the world is.

In our country we do not specifically hire waiters on the grounds of gender or attractiveness. You're highly unlikely to be served by a young, attractive female; and if you are, she's generally the only one on staff and you'll get looks from the other waiters. Generally you will be served by a 30-something man. So fortunately, we do not have this BS here.

800 protestors have been held without bail for at least one year, almost 13 months. Many face charges as benign as violating a 6-PM curfew, charges where, if found guilty, the maximum jail sentence would be a fraction of time served. And yes, the FBI turned to the public for help in facial identification. Contrast that to BLM where charges such as "arson" were dropped with prejudiced.

That is a false comparison. Those two are not comparable. Nor were the effects of the violence. Rioters in Minneapolis burned down a police precinct; others in other cities looted and burned buildings. All of those acts were criminal and damaging. None of them broadly threatened the existence of law enforcement or commerce. The dismantling of a city’s police department is objectively less significant than the overthrow of the U.S. government. More importantly, the violence itself wasn’t simply meant to send a message to legislators, the violence was meant to actually effect the desired change.

Those attempting to equate the protests last year with the storming of the Capitol are collapsing hundreds of protests aimed at police brutality into one homogeneous and violent event. In reality, the vast majority of protests (which there is plenty of proof for) involved no violent acts at all. The protest promoted by Trump in the weeks before Jan. 6 did result in violence, with hundreds of Trump supporters attacking police and vandalizing the seat of federal legislative power in the United States. Simply on a percentage basis, rallies centered on Trump’s lies about the election being stolen have FAR more often devolved into deadly violence than did Black Lives Matter protests. Trump supporters expressed more outrage about the alleged hypocrisy of the left than about Trump's incitement of his base to march on the Capitol in the first place.

Because when it was just "teach history" any history concerning Black Americans or their contributions were left out of the lessons, that is why. Our racial history is MUCH more convoluted than I believe many Europeans here on BP think....it is not as easy as "teach history" when you have a country that has historically declared an entire race inferior, used them like farm equipment for over a hundred years, then forced them to remain separated, second class citizens for another hundred. Our laws are a reflection of that.

The stupid thing is that 'history' (i.e. white history) isn't being correctly taught the whole time it doesn't take black history, and the history or other non-whites, into account anyway. I've been reading about the history of black people in the UK, which is fascinating in itself, and the richness it adds to all our histories is unbelievable.

History was my favorite subject in school, but it was always Eurocentric including "World History". Even literature classes were always Eurocentric. I would have loved it if we had access to other histories such as African, Eastern Asia, Native American, etc. By understanding histories other than our own, we understand ourselves better as humans.

In some european countries, policemen are trained about 3 years not also in practice but also in special colleges, ranging from law, traffic organisation, psychology, sociology to political sciences. Yes, shooting and defense, too, but not that much. Some american states still do not require much more than a few weeks of shooting training.

I don't understand this violence at all. When I was in my Administration of Justice class in high school 20 yes ago as a precursor to studying law enforcement in college, my teacher, who was a retired deputy sheriff taught us that deadly force is almost always unnecessary. He only fired his gun once in his entire career. To never fire when bystanders are close or could be injured, and never a fleeing car or fleeing person. That there is usually another nonlethal way to apprehend the suspect. He was also former secret service in the 70s.

Ambulances are NOT taxis. They are mobile ER's. They are staffed with highly trained medical professionals, who frequently have more training than most nurses, who are there to save your life when you happen to try to die anywhere that is not a hospital. Paramedics deserve a LOT more recognition than this, especially considering what they see on a day to day basis.

Thanks you! I think we should also recognise the roll the play in assessing people to determine when they DON’T need to go to hospital. That in itself is essential - if they can sort someone out enough that they can get to their doctor the next day or have a family member come to help them they reduce clogging up ER’s unnecessarily, which frees up beds and staff for people really needing hospitalisation fast.

I was concussed from being hit head on by another driver. I don't remember if I was asked if I wanted an ambulance, due to the memory loss. I got hit with a bill for around $1000 several months later. As I recall, the hospital I was taken to was only a few blocks away. Had I been in my right mind, I would have asked the first responders to call me a cab.

It’s so bad that when the Los Angeles county officials decided to put up portapotty toilets for the homeless in order to address the growing problem of human waste on the streets and impacts to local businesses now dealing with hundreds of homeless people needing to use a bathroom. The city and county officials did not think things through completely, not ever imagining that local gang members would move in, and actively prevent the homeless from using the facilities by charging them a dollar a visit. The county had to make more choices. Pay for a 24 hour security guard or remove the toilets…guess which they chose. Yup, they removed the toilets.

I went into hospital for a day surgery procedure which involved shoving a camera into my bladder and up into my kidneys to do some investagatin'. When I woke up I was screaming in agony and was in hospital for a week. For the whole week I was telling the nurse that I was peeing blood (I had a catheter) and she kept saying no I wasn’t, I was just dehydrated. I was drinking plenty of water. At the end of the week I was still in agony but they removed the catheter and asked me to pee on my own. I did. It was pure blood. When the nurse saw she said "oh Jesus." I f*****g told you wamman! After not being told anything by anyone, I went to my follow up appointment weeks and weeks later with my urologist who asked how it went. I said it was horrifying and it was then he who told me that the inexperienced registrar who had performed the procedure had done it incorrectly and perforated by bladder. That’s why I was bleeding. And he didn’t tell anyone. I could’ve died.

I was treated like an hysterical woman when I said I could feel that my coil had been pushed through my uterus into my bowel. They believed me several months later when I pooped it out and was pregnant. Why aren’t women believed about their own bodies? It was 12 years ago. I had a nurse’s appointment the other day and the coil issue came up. The nurse actually said “Poor Doctor P” like it was such a trauma to the doctor! Wtf!

My wife fought tooth and nail to get our GP to acknowledge the fact her episodes of severe abdominal pain were due to endometriosis - he wouldn't even entertain the idea and suggested it was either "gas", period cramps or that she was exaggerating. After two years of going nowhere she went to private clinic and they told her that not only it really was endometriosis, but it was already stage IV with adhesion to other internal organs and they would need to operate ASAP. We went to the GP with the diagnosis and the MRI printouts in hand and still he wouldn't allow that he had been wrong. In the end she had surgery last year and is now much better and the GP retired.

Actually, the Galveston hurricane of 1900 may have had as many as 30,000 casualties. It's impossible to know. A. It was a tourist town at the height of the season, B. Not everybody who lived there was documented, and C. So many bodies were washed off of the island that many, many of them ended up washing up on the mainland in the storm surge. The story is insane. Read 'The Storm of the Century' by Al Roker, or 'The Fayling Papers' by Lloyd Fayling. (Sorry. Not to minimize the current state of affairs, I'm just a history buff.)

I once considered calling for help for someone behaving erratically. The neighbour, who had to put up with their behaviour, kindly persuaded me not to do it. While I've seen violent people handled well, I was hesitant to risk someone's life.

B***h, most of us are on drugs - you still don't get to murder people. This is not true. A house must be appraised by a licensed appraiser. The appraiser will take many different factors into account and then give their best estimate based on their findings, and this does sometimes involve personal judgment. So, it's entirely possible that an appraiser with overt or unconscious bias could quote a lower value based on what they think of the homeowners. It's called redlining and you should really do some research before you buy a home or take out a loan.

This is reminding me of something I saw on a TV news program footage, back in the 90s, a horde of men in broad daylight, at a busy city park, sexually attack any women that came by. There were a bunch of police there just watching and letting it happen. There were other people yelling at the police for not doing anything about it.

My husband is North African and raised Muslim. Yes every year his family buys a sheep and kills it at home. It is shockingly different than how we in the western world obtain meat. Here we buy prepackaged, wrapped in plastic and styrofoam, injected with chemicals to make it appear red and fresh, and we are so far removed from where it came from, what sacrifices were made so that we could eat that we allow an entire industry prolific abuse of animals.

In movies, books, shows, etc the villain is never someone you fall in love with. They're always fat and ugly while the protagonist is always skinny, flawless, and beautiful. Fatshaming starts in daycare with Cinderella and Snow White. It's rooted in our culture that pretty people get more stuff. When I'm with my friends, I send my skinny, pretty friends to ask or tell sales clerks, waitress/waiters, and security guards things because they won't listen to me. Oh, and btw, people don't "look" racist. A personality trait doesn't come with a "look". I can "look" German by having pale skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair. I can "look" Hispanic by having coco skin, dark eyes, and black hair. So tell me, how do I "look" racist? By being fat? By being ugly? By being middle-aged? I think it's interesting that western society hates on Muslim culture for having gendered dressing standards but is fine telling girls to cover their shoulders in school and work so they're not sexually distracting. Or to require they wear skirts for school uniforms.

Interesting that a friend of mine had surgery at the hospital I used to work at. This friend had always been disdainful of women who wear hijabs. Muslims in general. The nurse who looked after her wore a hijab. My friend described her as sweet and compassionate. I know her & it's so true. The woman who came to draw her blood, I know her too. The best at doing that in the entire hospital. Lovely person. She wears a hijab. Described her as kind & so gentle she never felt the needle go in. She never mentioned the fact that they both wore a hijab. I had to ask, just to establish in my mind which colleagues looked after her. Hopefully this gave her an attitude change. It's their choice. None of her business. Stop judging and take people as they are & show respect for how they express their faith.

No, nothing is new; we just happen to be having a pandemic, so now the privileged are suffering as well.... except minorities, women, poor, etc., are suffering EVEN MORE. But, "boo hoo, I'm white, have food, housing, and financial security... but, I have to wear a mask and cancel my vacay???" People act like their minor inconvenience for looking out for the wellbeing of others, is somehow equal to the disparities many of us have dealt with our entire lives. It's sick.

Idc if you believe that trans people are the gender they identify as. That's up to your own religious beliefs. HOWEVER: trans people are PEOPLE and DESERVE RESPECT AND KINDNESS. They have the right to do whatever they please with their own bodies and be treated how they want. No it comes from all media. Fox news is the most egregious but CNN and MSNBC are just as likely to sensationalize and focus on protestor misbehavior while deemphasizing or misreporting anything negative from authorities. A lot of big name reporters got their eyes opened the last year when they experienced the police's complete lack of regard for journalist immunity. Didn't stop the networks from focusing on "law and order" though. There's a reason why American's trust in journalism is at an all time low.

IUDs hurt and have a lot of complications. Hormonal birth control is risky for someone my age, especially given that I have no plans for that kind of activity. I'm pretty scared what could happen if I was ever assaulted.

Im so sad now, that is irrelevant. But my heart goes out to everyone living this life and faces the fear that comes with it. I cant even think of anything empowering or comforting to say. Its just Sick, obviously so sick. Im ashamed to be so protected by the color of my skin. Now, I saw this post that said, "if you think that this is just as beautiful as this, retweet ❤️" and it showed her next to a super model. Tons of retweets. Okay, but, hear me out, let the downvotes begin, why the f**k does that matter??? Her features may not be the best, she may not have wonderfully beautiful hair, or the wonderful blue eyes and long eyelashes, but she is beautiful. She is beautiful for fighting. For being so strong.
