Himachal Pradesh is a northern Indian state in the Himalayas. It’s home to scenic mountain towns and resorts such as Dalhousie. Host to the Dalai Lama, Himachal Pradesh has a strong Tibetan presence. This is reflected in its Buddhist temples and monasteries, as well as its vibrant Tibetan New Year celebrations. Hima means snow in Sanskrit, and the literal meaning of the state’s name is “in the lap of the Himalayas.” It was named by Acharya Diwakar Datt Sharma, one of the most eminent Sanskrit scholars of Himachal Pradesh.

Dalhousie
Dalhousie is a scenic hill station in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. It lies at an elevation of 1,970 m and is a popular summer getaway in Himachal Pradesh and among the most visited tourist destinations in Himachal.
Dalhousie is surrounded by snow peaked mountains and is located on the western edge of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas. It was named after Lord Dalhousie, the then Viceroy of India, who established this town as a summer retreat in 1854.

Mcleod Ganj
McLeod Ganj, also spelt McLeodGanj, is a town situated in the Upper Dharamshala region of Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by the Dhauladhar ranges, McLeodGanj lies at an average altitude of 2082 m. McLeodGanj is often considered as a twin city of Dharamshala.
Earlier, McLeodGanj was inhabited by the indigenous Gaddi tribes and dominated by one of the world’s earliest royal clans; the Katoch Dynasty. Later, it came under the rule of the British after Second Anglo-Sikh War in 1849 AD and was named after Sir Donald Friell McLeod, a Lieutenant Governor of Punjab.

Dharamshala
Dharamshala is a hill station in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. At an average altitude of 1,475 m above sea level, it is one of the best hill stations in Himachal state and among most famous tourist places in Himachal Pradesh apart from being a popular weekend getaways from Delhi for a 2 day trip.
This is the gateway to the Kangra valley and also the headquarters of Kangra district. The city was destroyed by a massive earthquake in the year 1905 and was reconstructed to become a health resort and a popular tourist destination.

Kasauli
Kasauli is a picturesque hill station in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. The town is a cantonment town of the Indian Army, having an elevation of 1,900 m above sea level. It is one of the top hill resorts near Delhi.
The history of Kasauli goes back to 17th century, when Rajput families came to take refuge in Kasauli situated in the foothills of the Dhauladhar Ranges of the lower Himalayas and later settled here. Later, it was established by the British in 1842 as a Cantonment town. Kasauli became a major garrison town of the British Army and many locals joined the British Army.

Manali is renowned for its snow-covered mountains, scenic beauty, history and culture. It is often referred to as the ‘Valley of the Gods’. Manali is named after the Hindu lawgiver Manu. The word Manali is derived from Manavalaya meaning the abode of Manu or ‘Home of Manu’.
