There’s Inexplicable Blue Camouflage Popping Up On Walls All Over Los Angeles, And I’m Here For It.
Now that Election Day is over—as well as the research, letdown, and celebration that goes along with it—I finally have found a bit of time to do the things I’ve been neglecting, like working out (not that eating pizza, Chinese takeout, and ramen while scouring the internet for voting cheat sheets isn’t still my favorite form of cardio).
So, as I set out to start this new-and-improved-policies, new-and-improved-me health journey with a Runyon Canyon hike, I came across something absolutely amazing and bizarre: a HUGE blue camouflage art installation out front of a house at the crest. To make things even stranger, the installation had a secret message hidden in the camo, with the line “is hiding in plain sight” peeking out from the patterned blue background. But what was hiding in plain sight? The only other clue I found was in the form of a single hashtag: #plainsight. Well, so much for clarity.
After doing a bit of digging, I became more intrigued. These camo art installation, which has been popping up all across LA, from Venice to USC, was created by street artist and master of trippy (and drippy) paintings, Deladeso (www.deladeso.com). So far, no one seems to have been able to decipher what the message is behind the pattern, but hikers, students, and influencers such as Cody Walker, Milana Vayntrub, Brittany Furlan and more have all been taking photos in front of the various walls and using the #plainsight hashtag.
In his press release about the project, Deladeso remained mysterious about the hidden meaning, instead inviting those who came in contact with one of the art walls to join the movement by posting their own photo with the hashtag #PLAINSIGHT. What is it and why have influencers and celebrities, as well as poor souls on a possibly brief fitness kick (like me) been flocking to it? Maybe we’ll never know. Or maybe it’s whatever you think it is.
