In 2008 Russia invaded Georgia. Injustice still reigns – 20% of Georgia is still occupied. Georgians are banned from entering parts of their own country.

But hardly anyone outside of Georgia knows about it.

While spreading the information is the only weapon, Georgians, from a country, 250 times smaller than Russia, had a hard time getting the world’s attention.

Giovanni Morra, proudly Georgian accessories’ (including passport covers) brand, standing for freedom of expression, saw one of its products – a passport cover – as a powerful and the most relevant carrier for Georgians to spread the message across the borders.

The idea became even more relevant, as the recent visa liberalization to EU countries significantly increased the number of Georgian travelers.

As a passport represents the country of its origin, Giovanni Morra “cut off” 20% of its surface with the barb-wire and marked the area with red (occupation color), visually demonstrating the ratio of the occupied area.

That’s how Giovanni Morra created a simple tool for every single Georgian citizen to speak up to the world. The visual associated with the “Occupied Passport” went far beyond one product and became a symbol to fight against the occupation!
