Thanksgiving With Sister

So, my sister – who at one point I stop talking to her for more than 10 years (we are in our 50’s)- sent me a message last week inviting me “next Friday to Thanksgiving dinner. I responded that we usually spend Thanksgiving with some friends but this year we were not. She responded that it was a coincidence, she also spent the holiday with a cousin usually but not this year. So, I asked what should we bring, etc…etc… and that was that. On Thanksgiving day my wife and I showed up at her house and she was not there. We waited a few minutes and she arrived totally surprised. Nothing was ready for a family dinner.
She kindly told me, we had been invited for Thanksgiving on FRIDAY, not Thursday. So, we had whatever he and her 3 kids were having for dinner that night. The husband said wherever 5 eat, 7 can eat so don’t worry. Dinner ended early with them taking kids to classes, etc… etc.. My wife got mad at me for having the day wrong, my sister was kind of nice but said I was the one at fault.
I am wrong at being mad with my wife for she blaming me?
I know my sister said Friday, but what I noticed was she inviting us for Thanksgiving. It is the first time in 30 years she has donde that. I never noticed she said Friday.
So, I am back at my house on Thanksgiving at 6PM, my wife is mad at me for not understanding the message from my sister and my sister is on her high horse feeling she did nothing wrong. Is this a typical family Thanksgiving? 😂

Share on FacebookIt's not uncommon to have thanksgiving on a Friday or even Saturday. Many people have to work the day of. All of my nieces work in the medical field. I used to work retail. It's hard to get family together when work and distance are involved. (Same with Christmas) But I can understand why the confusion if you have never had to move the date. Apologize and hopefully things will blow over. It's possible your wife was super embarrassed by your blunder.
It's weird. She said Friday, but Thanksgiving is Thursday. Probably should have confirmed date and time to be sure. Nothing to be upset about. Awkward sure. What is worrisome is that it doesn't sound like you and sis really mended the fence. Maybe you should invite her over soon.
