“The Cut 2” After being removed, Marge Simpson returns in front of the Consulate General of Islamic Republic of Iran

This morning Marge Simpson reappeared in front of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Milan in a new artwork entitled “The Cut 2”.

The previous one, which was celebrating Mahsa Amini and the courage of Iranian women, has been removed in less than 24 hours. The artist aleXsandro Palombo returns to action and responds to the censorship with his subversive style by restoring the artwork with Marge Simpson which, in this case, reveals extra details, such as an angry face and a raised middle finger.

Representing Marge Simpson is a targeted choice of the artist: since 2012 the government of Iran has banned the marketing and broadcasting of the Simpsons because, according to the regime, “they corrode the morale of Iranian youth”. The removal of the artwork in recent days in front of the Iranian Consulate in Milan has aroused indignation and pushed thousands of young Iranians around the world to share it as a manifesto of resistance and freedom.

Its removal has also triggered intense discussions online and offline about the danger of censorship and the importance of preserving the right to freely express our thoughts, even in the free and democratic countries, so that it cannot be questioned.

“Keeping high level of attention on this dramatic event is of vital importance because it is the only way we have to strongly support young Iranians. Their freedom is our freedom.” said aleXsandro Palombo.

Many international personalities are supporting Palombo’s artwork on their social profiles, from the Emmy Awards winner Carolyn Omine, TV writer and Executive Producer of the Simpsons, to Ian Bremmer, one of the most authoritative American political scientists in the world, up to Nathaniel Gleicher, the head of Meta’s security policy.
