Dad Turns His Sons’ Doodles Into Anime Characters, And The Result Is Amazing (Part III)
Regular visitors to Bored Panda will no doubt be familiar with the incredible artwork of Thomas Romain. He's a French anime artist living in Tokyo who's worked on various popular series including Space Dandy, Basquash!, and Aria, but his best ideas are the ones that come from his sons.
Working together in what he calls the Father And Sons Design Workshop, Thomas and his kids come up with an eclectic assortment of funny, creepy, and sometimes downright bizarre creatures. Well, it's actually his children who think of them, and then Thomas adds his professional touch to turn them into everything from one-eyed beasts and plant monsters to giant robots and pink-haired hoverboarders. This kid has got mad good color feel. Patterns, textures, asymmetry...damn kid. He's gonna be as good as or better than dad if he keeps this up!
Never would've pictured a feathered creature from the child's drawing...makes me wonder - what do the kids think about Dad's interpretations?

AAAaannnnd...this one is my favorite. I want a figurine of this on my desk.
This kinda makes me sad, because it makes me think "where did my limitless imagination went?". I remember I used to draw A LOT when I was a little girl, but as I grew up, I got caught by life and the classic path of doing things. I have to let my imagination out of the box I locked it in.

I think the dad is ruining the work of the son. I frequently look at children drawings and in this drawings there are some elements which I consider not to be of the hand of a child but of a professional who wants to pretend that these are children drawings. But for sure: There can be some kind of exceptional talent. If that's the case: The dad is ruining the work of his son, because the art is not – like in the Dads drawings – to draw perfect postures or have cute, anthropomorphic faces but in the creativity of invention. If it's true, than you can discover a huge talent in the sons drawings. With his pseudo-improvements the Dad shows his son, how the pictures "have to look", but in fact I think the son has much more talent than his father. As his Dad I would be afraid of discouraging him with that. Being able to draw a hand oder a face the "real" way, everybody is able to learn. Being creative as it is visible in the sons pictures is much more difficult.

The sons have amazing imagination. It's good that parents are allowing them to be creative instead of shakling them with homework, piano or tennis lessons.
First off, I love how he connects with his children's imagination and adds his own. However, I have a big problem with the title (of this and the two previous parts). The word 'doodle' means a drawing that is not serious nor takes a lot of work or attention and to hail the father's work as art, but brand the child's work as something far inferior is unfair - I think the kids worked just as hard and with just as much attention and dedication as the father, they just haven't had the practice yet.
There is such thing as the definition of words changing over time.

Yeah, great platform for showing how good at anime drawing the dad is. Shut up kid, your ideas mean nothing unless you can streamline them into succinct, realised images that convey our consumer base. Your dad rocks!
