It’s easy to make fun of the Brits. I should know, I’m one myself! However, the whole ‘bad teeth’ thing that Americans seem to cling to is a little outdated by now, we got that sorted a while back and quite regularly go to the dentist now. Well most of us, anyway.
So why not have a dig at the fact that we invented a whole host of sports, which we now suck at? Or the brand-new super expensive aircraft carrier we got, which has no aircraft and already sprung a leak? And what about this guy, who represents us to the world as our Foreign Secretary? The list is practically endless. Luckily, most of us have a pretty deprecating sense of humour and are quite happy to chuckle along too, so by all means, give us your best shot.
Now, if you must, you can add general hysteria and losing-of-shit over a little bit of bad weather to the list. Egged-on by a ridiculously sensationalist tabloid press, Brits have been portrayed as a bunch of hopeless ninnies who are incapable of functioning as a society as soon as but a single snowflake falls from the sky. And sadly, it’s all true.
Naturally, people from countries like Canada, Switzerland, Norway and Russia, places where it gets like, actually cold, can only look on with incredulous pity at us whiny Brits, and wonder what the heck all the fuss is about. Those guys get it soo much worse than us, but life seems to go on just fine. What is our problem? Well, you see old chap, we just always seem to get the wrong type of snow. Just unlucky I guess!
Scroll down to see how the world roasted us, and quite rightly so I might add. Oh, and feel free to take a pop at us in the comments too. Bring it!

Two snow flakes talking. -"What you up to?" -"Going to Canada partying with friends, you?" -"Going by myself to the UK to cause panic!"
wow you all in UK got it hard. Thats alot of snow even here in Canada. Stay safe and off the roads.
Lookit the a*s on that old guy!! Hard as a rock ... probably just like his erections still are, too!!
You would be too if you chopped a swimming hole in an icy lake naked probably on a regular basis Lol!
Load More Replies...I live in England and you get snow like this once every what 5 years? We do not have winter tires. So driving is extremely difficult people do still work trust me. But why should you when you can spend this time with your kids, It will only last for 2-3 days anyway.
Never walk heel to toe. It’s a sure way to slip and fall. Shuffle your feet if you’re unsure. And don’t leave the EU!
Screw that, we're staying OUT of the EU no matter how much snow we get.
Load More Replies...I knew I needed to blame someone for this snow. The EU could be blamed because they are cross with us. It's their fault. That works for me. :D
Same in France : two days of snow, 10 cm high, no mail, no garbage collection, nothing in the supermarkets, people sleeping in their cars on the higways, . . .Yes, the end of the world.

I live in Rome. Because of a bunch of snowflakes the whole city has stopped/closed everything: public services, schools, universities for two days. I'm Romanian and seeing people on the streets with ski outfits for 1cm of snow it was funny af.
Absolute rubbish, people who have no British friends and never been think London means Britain, so bloody ignorant
? You mean those stupid Londoners, why do the Yanks love pulling England to bits? pathetic
Growing up in Sweden, in my memory we have had ONE snow day. I'm 30 years old, that snow day was in Mid-november 1995... 😜 And as far as I know, that's the only one we've ever had. It was a hell of a Blizzard! Couldn't open the doors that morning because of the snow blocking them.
Load More Replies...Everybody has a day off...except for you. You still need to go to work! (As a nurse, this is always true)

Load More Replies...Are you referring to the bread, the snow or the man?
Load More Replies...That's almost like what happens here in Raleigh. In fact, a few years back, I legitimately needed food, it was my normal shopping day. And I needed eggs. So, walking all the way to the back of the store, pass cookie aisle. Stop Back up. Where the f*ck are all the cookies? Is this something new? Get eggs, bread, water, more bread, beer, and now cookies? Are they using them to make Doom Sandwiches?
Although some other countries have it in Europe, South America, and Israel, but it’s not a common as cartons, jugs, or other containers.
Load More Replies...It is ok Britain. This is us in Texas when it snows as well. We get to laugh though when other parts of our country are calling 32 Celsius a heat wave!
Ever heard of going on a vacation to ski in a place where they have ski resorts?

same here. I even have a tea stash at my friend's house because she doesn't have tea. no, wait. she likes Lipton ice tea powder drink. I weep for her generation.

I'll never understand why are Brits so in love with their tea.. :')
Good lord, stockpile teabags? We would never run out of tea, my emergency cache of tea would keep a small country going for a month. If you want me to stockpile, I’ll need to buy a spare house to keep it in.
When my countrys government hear of my tea stock, they shure ask me to be the country reserve
Load More Replies...Being born and raised in Norway I can verify this. During grade school (5th or 6th grade) the snow was so tall I swam through snow to get to school. Only time I've ever experienced school closing is when we had -22°C and the heater in my classroom broke. Freedom lasted 2 hours before we were told to get our asses back to school, the heating was after all working lol.
The heater was in a state of shock, for a first two hours? :)
Load More Replies...I am also complaining about too much snow in the city of Norway sometimes, and it is not so much, but difficult to parking my car, because half of the parking spaces will bee gone because you have to put the snow somewhere. I like that it is snow om the country side and in the mountains, so people can go on ski. I also like a little bit of snow in the city, like in London.
Erm... I live in finland, -28C today. Saw sun! I can tell you we have no sun in winter, so seeing the sun today was awesome. And it's pretty cold and snowyou butility it wasn't that bad
I also live in Finland and I do not understand foreign people who complain that it is 'too cold' to go outside if it is colder than -5 degrees Celsius... Why those people don't buy proper winter clothes? Here in Finland people do their daily Pokémon GO walks in -25 C without any problems (exept the iPhone users because their phones usually totally stops working in -15 C).
Because we can't get those clothes in the UK since it reaches -5C during the day with snow once every 7 or so years!!! I moved to Switzerland on the 10th January when I was 20 and the first thing we did was head to a clothes shop as all I'd managed was thermal ski tops, jeans and layered microfleece!!! We just don't have the right kind of clothes on sale here....
Load More Replies...oi, that's slightly unfair to Canada for a number of reasons - one, the average is -28; two, we only cancel the buses, not school; and three, that's only in freezing rain
I wish that they will close school in Poland when it's -18C.. We have to go to work/school like every other day.
They sent the tough immigrants and criminals away instead of their "best" citizens :|
Technically, the French colonized Canada, and the Brits colonized New England, further south. Then, when the French built warm stoves, the Brits moved in. lol A lot of the immigrants to western Canada came from other winter countries, or from eastern Canada, where they were already acclimatized.
Load More Replies...Because there are a small majority of "brits" who are pathetic!! A little bit of snow and that's it!! They panic buy bread and milk (how many sandwiches an cups of tea do you need!!!), close schools because there is a little bit of snow on the path leading up to the school gates!!! it is a joke this country. You can't do anything due to health and safety!! But you do have a lot of people who are pathetic!!!
It’s got nothing to do with history as far back as colonialism, the UK wouldn’t have batted an eyelid at snowy weather as little as 40-50 years ago. Unfortunately as with the rest of the world we have become used to the comfortable life that we have in modern days, the big difference is Cold country’s are used to a lot of snow are have the infrastructure in place to deal with it, in then UK we have a few gritters that don’t really help, we just don’t get the bad weather often enough to make it worth spending the money. So the rest of the world can have a giggle at our expense for a few days, at least when you’re laughing you’re not shouting :oD apart from Mr T of course lol
Pretty good attention to detail with the guy driving on the wrong side of the
In other news: Large portions of Canada receive 3 feet of snow less than forecast. Citizens are mildly perturbed.

NE Ohio is literally a place of unpredictability. Like you go to sleep with 3 feet of snow and temperatures below -10F and wake up and it's sunny and 70F.

Yeah that's why years ago when we did have a lot of snow and ice I got lovely spikey things from Canada to put over my shoes. I figured you guys would be the ones to know about that sort of thing. They were great. There was everyone else slipping around and there was me walking like normal. This is why the world should be a community. People who get this all the time should teach us how to cope with it instead of making fun. (Although I have to say it is pretty pathetic) My mother told me that in the forties it was really bad like towering snow walls and they just got off the train and walked over the fields. We've lost a bit of gumption haven't we? Developed a what's the point attitude instead of lets get on with it.
LOL it's our media whipping up a storm of Hysteria, the rest of us mostly just get on with it haha
The Media, not the rest of us Brits, we get bored of their stupidity too lol
That's a lot of beans when your "trapped" inside with everyone farting.
This and the produce section picture are what convince me the Brits have no idea what they're doing. For a snowstorm, it's 1. bread 2. milk 3. toilet paper 4. alcohol. For a hurricane, add bottled water and batteries. There is no weather emergency that calls for stockpiling vegetables.
Americans telling the British how to speak British, what a joke you are USA
2010 is the last time I remember proper snow. So... 8 years ago. I'm up north though, the south gets even less.
Load More Replies...Those guys are lucky they have snow tho :\ I live in a tropical country and i really want snow.
We only get it, (snow|), every few years. We aren't set up for it like folks in say, Canada, where our 4" or so is nothing. However, it really is just the media freaking out, (they'll use anything to distract us from what's really going on), most of us just get on with our lives anyway. We LOVE snowy days in our house!
we have, it's just the new generation are scared of hard work, health & safety obsessed, scared of being sued by everyone who wants to make some money without working for it and have spineless cowards running the country
usually for a day... not like this. Normally mother Nature helps out and melts it as fast as the snow ploughs and gritters do...Not this time, it's deeper, it's colder, and it's lingering...
Load More Replies...Excuse my American ignorance, but WTF is a gritter? You mean salt trucks and snowplows?
Yeah salt trucks we call gritters and we officially name them things like "gritty gritty bang bang" and "luke snowalker"!

'We Brits' are only the English - the Scots, Irish and Welsh do fine in the snow
Actually, the Irish are not. They are going completely crazy right now, at least down in the south, exactly as the brits.
Load More Replies...It’s kind of funny but even in countries that have lots of snow, the first day is always a bit chaotic. It’s usually the drivers that spaz out.
Whole countries gone mental over the snow we had recently, seriously come on guys what’s the problem? We all know the uk goverment cannot be bothered to managed our little dusting properly. That’s why the farmers are out 24hours getting idiots out of trouble! No wonder we are the laughing stock of the planet! Ffs
Seems like from the posts here both the USA and Canada do not understand that Britain is a lot bigger than London. When London gets 5cm snow, northern England can have 100cm snow, Scotland 200cm. Time these countries got it into their thick heads that Britain is a lot more than London, for heavens sake, look at a bloody map.
These aren't really fair reactions to us Brits for the following reasons: 1) Most people in Britain are just getting on with it 2) We're the land of the ever changing weather, we're pretty good with having sun/rain/wind/hail/thunder/snow etc on the same day 3) Some people have died due this weather or been trapped on the motorway for 20 odd hours so obviously it's more than just a bit of snow 4) We only really get this level of snow for a few days every 6 or 7 years, so therefore there is no need for us to invest in the infrastructure needed to clear it all as they do in Canada/Scandinavia/Russia etc. We'd rather just be inconvenienced for a little while every few years.
I lived there for 6 years and it snowed probably every other year. And everyone just got on with it, like you said. Also, I don't think it's fair to judge a whole country by one city. Just as New York isn't representative of the US, London isn't representative of England. (They are just parts of the whole.)

Yeah, I actually avoid clicking on posts with the "the internet can't stop laughing" in the title.
