Ukrainian Artist Continues To Remove Makeup From Dolls To Repaint Them In A Very Realistic Way (New Pics)
207Kviews
The unrealistic portrayal of dolls and their effect on the female self-image is a persistent discussion surrounding the kids' toys industry. Dolls for girls were, and in most cases still are, an ideal of proportional body shape and beauty, which has been influencing girls around the world from a very young age. This perfectly symmetrical and flawless image has become an aspiration, though it‘s far from realistic. This is why we are thankful for artists who think of the box and contribute to a change by carrying the message of individual and unique beauty.
Ukrainian artist Olga Kamenetskaya specializing in doll repainting and modification, takes what‘s considered ‘perfect’ and gives it a realistic makeover which results in gorgeous, one-of-a-kind creations. What has started as a hobby of repainted dolls from Monster High, has turned into a career which is now admired by almost 60k people on Instagram.
Every popular doll you can think of: Barbie, Blythe, BJD, you name it, turns into extremely realistic dolls and foremost, unique works of art. All the fine details, such as little features, imperfections, body shapes, realistic wigs, add charisma to lifeless, mass-produced toys and are definitely what makes her life-like dolls stand out.
It is safe to say that dolls look much better after the dramatic makeup has been stripped off, and it goes to show the so-called ‘flaws’ are what actually makes us beautiful.

I am glad 'realistic' is in '' because they definitely look more life like but still unrealistic! but omg the before in this one is scary and the after one is BEAUTIFUL
This one is somehow closest to the original, which was more natural to begin with.
Absolutely stunning work, very well done. Really shows the surreal image of women these dolls portray.
Amazing work. They look much more realistic and with some real character. Also: I wish the original doll makers would make more realistically proportioned necks (and the rest of the bodies too, of course)
I appreciate the artist's talent but how is this connected to body positivity? Originally, they looked disproportionate and unnatural. Unless you are someone obsessed with becoming 'human barbie' or 'human Ken', everyone knows that these are fake. But the artist had made all them beautiful in a conventional and realistic manner, which can actually cause insecurities to many more people.
Rose dear Rose what a bunch of BS you posted. Insecurities my arse. She is not doing this for children. Unnatural? What do you call the faces before she did them? Don't see many of those befores walking around in human form. Maybe you just needed to find fault with something. It will be all right I promise and she will not be selling these in mass quantities if that makes you feel better.
Rose, it's not that serious. :)

Rose, give me a break with that BS...I’ll bet Donald trump isn’t “your” president...lol
If these were on the market i'd collect them.
They're on Etsy I'm pretty sure.
Their eyes are so full of life!
These are so beautiful. Women are always beautiful, no matter if they wear makeup or not!
This is more than just repainting. Replanting the hair, replacing eyes, new costumes, all a huge amount of tedious exacting work. Brava!
And she's working on such a tiny scale too - the faces can't be more than 2 inches high, probably a lot less.
These kind of freaked me out.
So, the main question is probably not why toy companies make dolls like these, but why people buy them. We are a seriously weird kind of animal, aren't we? Her stunning artwork makes the "deformities" of the dolls stand out even more.
So much talent here! Love them all :)
Really amazing
She has amazing talent. I love how some of the dolls have little freckles.
Insanely good!
Beautiful makes them more lifelike and shows that humans don’t and shouldn’t look like Barbie dolls so we shouldn’t compare ourselves to them because they are fake. They are truly amazing
While these(especially some of these) are really beautiful and well done, let's be honest here, it has a lot more to do with a talented artist taking their time to hand-paint the dolls with their professional paints, brushes and skill (as opposed to cheap machine-done factory version) than with the whole natural vs makeup look. I do like the natural style, personally, but I also wouldn't mind seeing some made up dolls done like that, would be interesting :P
These are not even natural looks. It's just better applied make-up in the after photos.
This reminds me of how I need to get rid of my old dolls
There have been a lot of these stories in the past year involving Ukrainian artists. It makes me want to go visit and explore that country.
stunning!
Gorgeous and Awesome! Such a positive improvement both is looks and body positivity! It looks like she uses glass eyes for her dolls. I'm inspired to hunt for some old Bratz and see what I can do. : )
The most beautiful display of talent!! Amazing
Good job! Excellent work
woooooooowwww!
Look so real that they have human spirits.
They quite freaky. Especially the huge gap between tiny eyes sometimes. I love them.
The work is stunning but I think the goal of it (although very noble) is a bit confusing... the reason the dolls don't look hyper realistic is due to COST, plain and simple. It would cost a lot of money to hand brush each doll with this much detail. This is why hand painted models and statuettes cost a lot more than a barbie. This is why these cheap dolls have simplistic artwork on them that look cartoony. Kids also love cartoons, not hyper realistic miniature adults.
The most amazing part of these works is the eyes.
AMAZING!!!! If you aren't selling these as serious art, you should be.
Ooof. Nice work! K E E P I T U P!
I think this is one of the most wonderful issues of Bored Panda that I have ever seen. Congratulations to all the contributors! I especially liked the dolls that are repainted and the Maine Coon Kittens. I only wish that the kittens had been paired with their grown-up pictures.
Amazing work, but the idea they support body positivity is nonsense. If anything the less cartoonish, more "realistic" dolls are more damaging to young psyches.
I thought it was photoshop at first! WOW!
Doll repainting in general has less than nothing to do with "Toxic Imagery" topics and is just about painting prettier faces than the mass produced plastic ones. Don't attach that much meaning to what is mostly just art. It's good art, but you should know what it is.
#21 isn't even a repaint, that's a face painting of a ball jointed doll. Not mass produced, artist handcast and painted.
13 and 15 are also ball jointed resin or porcelain cast dolls. Not repaints. Just to be clear. None of these are meant to be "realistic" they're highly idealized but in a different style.
It would be nice if she commisions parents to have their kids’ faces painted into dolls or to make miniatures of them.😊
This is something Sonja Singh does. Tree Change Dolls is her brand. She works on thrift store dollies.
They're really good but the eyes on some of them - staring into my soul!
So beautiful! It would be interesting to see which version a child would choose if dolls were placed side by side.
So talented. Took my breath away
Time to start a realistic doll collection
RTX on/RTX off
Good work, but the Bratz ones look like anorexic girls when redone. Kinda creepy.
Yeah
amazing work, true artist
I work on these dolls too. And lots of other artists do. I personally work as Handmade from Ooak Tree. But just go to Etsy and check for "OOAK Monster High" - there are plenty of them :) DSC07103_m...62e353.jpg
How amazingly beautiful, what a gift
I call shenanigans. The artist may be repainting these digitally, but several of them are clearly not repainted physically. take a look at some of the lips, they have physically changed shape and width. so if these were done in real life, it's more than just paint.
You know nothing, Jon Snow. These dolls can be sanded, resculpted and other ways adjusted by chemicals like acetone. I do it for living.
I NEED that cute but creepy one with the white hair and blue eyes
Where can I buy these?
She has an Etsy store. I do repaints too :)
How?! How are you doing this?! Its amazingly beautiful!!! I would buy these in a heart beat!!

why she sexualize children toys? Present these bare breast and show pants. Would be nice to show to child but has to teach thst artist are not always smart and realism is technique not intelligence and imagination .... not nice. Imginative toys has point that childs brains develop, what realistic toys dont support but make them dull, dullness has been serious diagnose, counted also dangtous because nothing else than killing, blood and guts shakes them, so called wake.
Those dolls are meant for ADULT collectors, honey. Maybe educate yourself before leaving a comment?

I'm sorry, but some o f these were NOT at all something I would like. Sorry to everyone who thinks these are so great, but they arent. Well, some are wonderful, of course, but they rest aren't up to their level.
Sorry. Is it because you want to see women with makeup? I'm disgusted at your attitude towards this.
No... im saying that the way they put it was still a bit weird. Im not saying a woman MUST wear make-up to be beautiful. Im saying, some of them could look better. That they weren't and amazing as everyone said. I think the originals were weird to. I'm not saying that flaws aren't okay. I'm saying, not all of them looked as realistic as the comments were saying. I am sorry my comment offended you.
